Fuel Tank
I apologize if this may be a stupid question but i recently purchased a new 09 mustang convertible and so far i love it but one thing is still slipping me, on every tech spec i have seen even in the book itself it claims the fuel tank has a 16.1 gallon capacity but after many refuels and what the meters tell me best i can figure is its closer to 14 gallons is This the correct standard for the v6 or is their a reserve that does not show on my fuel gauge

there is still fuel in your gas tank. just because you're on "E" doesn't mean you're out of gas.

yeah 99-04 and even the earlier s95's are 15.5 I believe, but upon refills as said you'll be more around 14-14.5. You're "low fuel" light will be on with a couple gallons left in the tank, and even when the gas pump triggers to stop filling, there's gonna be remaining capacity in the tank, it'll never be 100% full. Whatever your manual says is what it is.

All stated above is correct. The extra couple gallons left in your tank when you hit "E" is your emergency reserve, and yes, you will never be able to put 16 gal in unless you run out of gass. Read your owners manual, it mentions all of this. |
