bigger wheels more lift?

Silly question probably, but going to ask anyway. My wife has an '04 stang w/stock wheels (15"?). She cannot take it through a typical car wash with the track rails or into her parking garage at work because it's too low and bottoms out. It appears that if I could get just a few inches lift, it would be fine. I'm thinking that if I get a "beefier" set of tires with a higher profile and/or a set of 18 wheels, that would do the trick.

My question is this...if I go from 15" rims to 18" rims, is it accurate to assume the overall lift of the car will be 3"? Or, is it not necessarily a one to one ratio? Thanks!

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I didn't want to spend the money only to find it doesn't help.

15" to 18" would only lift the car 1.5" wit just a rim. but usually the bigger the rim the smaller the tire so the bigger rim/smaller tire comes out to be the same diameter as the smaller rim/bigger tire

no, this is a poor assumption for two reasons, if you go up to 18s, the rims will be 3 inches taller, but from center to outside it is 1.5 inches.... on top of that the tires more then likely will have a thinner sidewall.

my suggestion is to make sure that the tires are the correct ones for the vehicle/rims.

Thanks Onemanzu. I guess I've forgotten my basic mathmatics. Thanks for the response. It sounds like it would be smarter to start with looking at a higher profile tire to see if that would do the trick. And you are right, they are 16's.

with 18's and tall sidewalls you might run into rubbing issues. plus it will look like shit.
