Engine shakes at high idle RPM's

Got a 2004 convertible, all stock (for now). May or may not be a new problem, but I found today that when I push it to 4000 rpms at idle, the engine shakes pretty badly. It happens exactly at 4000 every time, and only when I am idleing.

I was thinking bad or miss-firing plugs but I Would think that would be more apparent while driving at higher speeds. Any ideas?

i think you're wording this incorrectly, or your car has a REALLY bad problem.

- your car should NEVER reach 4000rpms unless you have your foot on the accelerator.

i just commented on previous threads about how other people and i have low ideling problems. i really hope your car does not idle at 4g.

IMO

+1, but i believe when he is saying "idle" i think he really means in neutral/park.

Could you describe the shake a little better? Because your engine will shake at higher rpms naturally.

Yeah, when I said "push it" i mean pushing the gas while in park. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

It is probably nothing bad, I am sure the engine just isn't used to spinning at 4000 in park.
It is not a gradual increase in shaking, it runs perfectly till 3999 rpm. At exactly 4000, the engine starts shaking from left to right hard enough to make the whole car move around.

No extra noises, just lots of movement.

Well if you did have a misfire you would notice it before you even reached 4k rpms. I wouldn't worry about it...It's natural for a motor to shake when in higher rpms. And you really shouldn't be revving your engine that high while in park, its not good for the motor especially after just starting it

I like it when my engine shakes.... mmmm solid motor mounts. If there's really a problem try checking your k member area for loose nuts and bolts. Look for easy stuff first.

i admit, it does look intimidating when u rev up and your whole car shakes

even better yet...when you have dual exhaust with a nice growl.

sounds like your car is saying "im gonna eat you!"
