oil question

Hi
I am new to this i am not sure if im in the right place, i just had a question about engine synthetic oil. I heard that once you use full synthetic oil you cant add any regular oil (i.e. 10w 30) when you actually have synthetic oil in your engine or after an oil change, is this right? by the way my car is a v6 2000.
hope makes sense
thanks.

I don't think it's an issue to go from synthetic to conventional IF you do a full change of oil and filter... however I would stay synthentic all the way, I have used both Mobil 1 and Royal Purple and like them both over conventional, and hey all the tests say that synthetic is better. However it is more expensive, R.P. is supposed to be top of the line, Pep Boys by me had a sale for 5qts and filter for $50... not too bad.

... and synthetic is measured by weight and viscosity as well, you can buy synthetic 10w30...

all oil is measured by weight and viscosity
using synthetic proves nothing aside from the fact you can spend more money on oil
yea you can go longer without an oil change
but in NO WAY is the CHEAPEST advanced or house brand oil no good

and as far as royal purple
i'd put Advanced auto parts oil, or conventional napa oil before i put royal purple in my car
aside from the fact it'll cost 1/5 less
royal purple isnt even a true full synthetic and its over priced untested crap

Castrol FTW

i put advanced auto parts oil in my fully built 4.2/4.3L stroker h/c/i turbocharged car

i run motorcraft because im bored...but every other change i switch over to castrol syntec...brand preference isn't the key here...its just keeping the same weight and not messing w/ it as much...sure there are little things like more detergents in sythetic over conventional...but who really cares...i just do it because a full synthetic change and filter (if done by yourself) runs under $25...

I'm staying with the Motorcraft Syn/Blend that my gt came with. I feel that Ford knows more about that engine than I ever will. Its under $3.00 a quart at Wally-Mart and they always have plenty in stock.

As far a self mixing Syn and regular or alternating...I don't know what issues that would have...I'm no expert.

switching between a full synthetic and synthetic blend isn't a problem...

What about additives in your oil such as Lucas? My neighbor swears by Lucas and practically uses nothing but Lucas. What problems could you run into if you've decided to use additives in your oil (I don't run additives in my oil, im just curious as to what problems you might get).

lucas is nice if you have a small leak...(if we're talking about the oil stabilizer), but for a sound engine it's not neccesary at all...just change your oil regularly and you'll be good to go...
