Idle at 2300 RPM

So I got a newer engine put in my '95 V6 (its an automatic) and I noticed that it idled little higher than normal, a little less than 1000 RPM in Park and Neutral. When it was put into gear though the RPMs went down to normal. My bad judgment told me it wouldn't get much worse plus it is just little higher than normal not really bad. So now around year and half later I am at around 2300 RPM sometimes when I put it in gear my car lunges (accelerates from high RPMS obviously). The RPMs though are normal once the car is in gear. I have been told it was a bad valve but I haven't really had it looked at since I have been busy in school. Well I am gonna fix it once I get back from college. Does anyone have any idea what it could be or the cost of it?

Oh and sorry for the long post...

Yeah I saw valves that weren't to bad at all in price but I know I will have to take it somewhere to get it fixed since I don't have a garage so I will get raped about the repair fees. I guess that means I will be out a car for a while...oh well first thing after I buy the GT is to fix the sixxer I guess...

no need for a garage to fix that.. it takes like 5-10 minutes and a basic ratchet set.

just 2 bolts

not a problem.. just be careful when taking it off so you do not tear the gasket behind it.

+1 replacing usually isn't needed just a real good cleaning. And was that a serious question as to why your car idles where it should between 850 and 1000? That isn't out of the ordinary for these cars, clean up the valves, that may help, and there's a way to adjust the idle. If the cleaning doesn't help PM me and we'll discuss that.

I don't know, this is my first v6. My first car was a Toyota Corolla, and it usually idles around 12-1500. Maybe it is just me being paranoid.
