What part is this?

Cant post in the correct thread due to maintenance... so here it is. What is the name of the part of the engine directly below the intake manifold, the part that you bolt the intake to. V6, so it has 12 holes and 6 butterfly valves inside.

If you need a picture ill get one, but i am sure someone here knows exactly what i am talking about. Thanks!

+1! That is it thank you much. Now for the real question. Cleaning. Right now I do not have enough time to take it off before I need to drive the car again, so I am cleaning it in place. Any harm in spraying some carb/throttle cleaner into the valves to wipe off some of the crap in there? Would it be bad if some of it ran down farther through the engine?

why are you cleaning the inside of the lower intake??

i would suggest not letting anything fall down into the engine.

I was cleaning because the valves we so gum'd up you could actually hear it while the car was idling. I didn't want to take it out because Its my daily driver and I only had 1 day off work. I got it cleaned out, too much of the cleaner got down in there, but I let it sit overnight before I put it back together. It didn't want to start but I held the starter on till it flushed some gas in there. Shoulda seen the cloud of white smoke. It engulfed my whole car for a couple minutes. Runs great now though, and the valves are no longer sticking. Thanks for the help.

What exactly do you mean you held the starter on. Because I took mine off to clean it and I sprayed the mounting surfaces on the heads with some carb cleaner before reinstalling the lower intake manifold. But when I put it back together it wouldn't start. It just cranked and cranked but never started and stayed on.

I held the key to the start position and gave it some gas until the cleaner burned off and was replaced by good fuel.

If that doesn't work you might re check your wiring to be sure you didn't forget something. Maybe the wire to the distributor

Funny you should mention the distributor because that was the first thing I checked. When mine cranks it sounds strong and will start but shut off immediately.
