info on manual trans

i really don't want to seem like a complete newb, but have any of you ever done a manual transmission swap on a v6? i would be really interested in doing something like this if i could find a donor car. i was looking for information what parts from what years are interchangeable with other years and so on.

im not sure whats needed, but i know that a getting a jmod and a shift kit would be a much more efficient route, but of course a 5spd would be much more fun.

ive just always heard a manual swap really isnt worth the price/trouble...

i know that it is by far not the most practical route, but i was just looking for some information on how you would go about something like that. this would make my car much more fun to drive and it is the only thing about it that i don't like.

it is incredibly hard to find info on this sort of thing (which is odd...). i'll probably end up getting a new stang in a manual. but, i would like to keep mine if possible (this is my first car)

The cheapest way is for you to find someone who is parting their car, and buy everything you need from them. I ended up spending $450 for everything needed for the install, and then bought a new clutch for $200. If you're going to try to find a shop to do it for you, I'd say it isn't worth it. I can't imagine what a shop would charge to do it...

Here are just about all the parts you need (I'm probably forgetting something):

t5 (you'll want one from 99+)
t5 wiring harness
Bellhousing with clutch fork
Bellhousing Bolts
flywheel
flywheel Bolts
Pilot Bearing
TO Bearing
Clutch disk + pressure plate
Clutch Dust shield
Pedal assembly
t5 driveshaft
Shifter bezel with boot
dust boot
Clutch cable and Quadrant

a new clutch kit will usually come with the TO and pilot bearings.

I believe a local mechanic near you can tell you what will be needed between the pedal assembly etc...

the pedal assembly is what i am worried the about the most. i am thinking that my be a little tricky. no doubt that having a junker car to pull parts from would be the best plan, so i am going to keep my eyes peeled for a 99+ mustang v6 manual. i am not planning on having a shop do anything on it, because that would be way too expensive. how long would a process like this take if i had almost every day to work on it?

The pedal assembly is usually considered the hardest part mainly because it's such a tight area. If you're a big guy or have abnormally large hands, it'll suck really bad. Luckily for me, when I did the swap, I was ~ 5'10'' 170, and my hands aren't that big so I was able to get through it without too much trouble. It just gets awkward when you're laying upside down and reaching up in the dash...

If I recall correctly, it took me ~4 days to just about finish everything. I didn't have the right transmission wiring harness so I had to wait about a week for it though. I'll edit the list to add the harness.

You'll need swivel joints and about 3 feet of extentions to get the bellhousing bolts.

edit: you have an '03, so you need a wiring harness from an '02-04.
