Two stupid questions

1). My dad thinks that if i get the SCT XCAL3 then i am going to mess up my car somehow. So is it easy to use this tuner? all the reviews i have read and many stang owners say its easy. keep in mind i have never done anything with a tuner before.

2). What exactly do you have to do to clean a cai filter? i guess when i get the tuner i might as well clean the filter while im under the hood.

i feel like a tard asking these questions but i gotta learn somehow

1. let someone tune your car for you (like the guy in my sig)
2. buy a recharge kit (k&n) at any auto parts store.. just wash the filter and oil it.

they aren't really "custom" they are just canned tunes. you would get a tune for a 2004 v6 mustang with these parts: (your parts) that is not your exact car. a custom tune is when you datalog (basically let the xcal plug into your cars computer and record how it really performs while driving) once you datalog, you email that datalog to a tuner.. there are few good ones out there that deal with sct, and that person will custom write a tune for your specific car and email it back to you. then you would download it into your car.

i have been wondering about this for a while. can you do this process for a supercharger if you don't have a dyno local?

do you think american muscle tunes would be sufficient for a heavily modified car?

a canned tune is never sufficient with a heavily modded car.. I even prefer the rollers to a custom tune if that modded..

how much would a tune cost from someone like that? and is there anyway that i could tune my own car with just the handheld tuner? i dont really have much on it right now, just AM cai and dual exhaust.

so you can tune this way with a supercharger, but you have to drive the car first?
i thought you didnt want to drive a car untuned after installing a supercharger or something major like that?

It's $75.00 for a bolt on car and $100(i think) for a nitrous/blown car
you can tune your own car using sniper software, but be warned.. if you don't know what you are doing, like fuel trims, you can jack your shit up real quick.

What normally happens is you would get a canned tune and then datalog based off of that tune and build the tune up to WOT pulls and tuning.

if you are supercharged and want a tune with no dyno in area, get a tune based on your parts from a respectable tuner (i.e. justin at vmptuning.com or joe at tricktuners.com). once you get that tune run your car and datalog everything. once you do that send it to the tuner and they will send you a new tune based on what you sent them

Many basic bolt-on modifications such as an UD crank pulley, dual exhaust or mufflers, and CAI kits (on 04' and older) Do-Not require a new tune.

^copied from VMP tuning. i dont really plan on doing anything other than the really small bolt ons for now so would ordering a custom tune from them really benefit me or would a canned tune from AM do pretty much the same thing.

a custom tune would indeed benefit you-- from any reputable tuner.
