Used Gears/Tlock

Just wondering would it be a bad idea to start looking for some used gears/tlock? Just to shave off a little of the cost of everything? I wasn't sure if this was an item that should always be purchased new... or if i could just determine by pictures if its good...

This is going to be my next upgrade (after a new HID kit)...

as long as the teeth are there and not broken off (get good pics)then used is usually okay...if buying off of ebay check reviews on the seller also....

I wouldn't buy used gears. They develop a wear patter particular to the car they are in and would probably whine like hell in your car.

yeah i felt like i should get new gears for that same reason... but how about the tlock?

OR...

Should i just look into the 8.8 rear end (hopefully with gears)... The 8.8 doesnt seem like its that much more money then the gears/tlock...

its heavier, and you'll have to install the brackets for a quad shock rear end...but if your planning to actually build your car its a good investment

interesting topic. i'd also like to hear the outcome to this question. so ur wondering now, if u should just get the whole 8.8 rear end used from a GT or so, and this would by-pass buying the gears and t-lok to replace in your current 7.5

*do u have a tuner yet?...bcuz from what i understand, you will have a heck of a change in ur speedo too.

he'd still need to upgrade the gears, unless he found a used 8.8 w/ gears already installed...a tuner would be handy to have for this upgrade...

yeah i have a xcal2... Ill do a quick forum search on the 8.8 to familiarize myself with it a little more... and so i know what all i would need to complete this project...

I feel like if there isnt much of a price difference it would make alot more sense to go with an 8.8...

There's a couple of good t-loks but it really depends on how much hp you will be pushing, there's some guys in here and other forums that have superchargers with a t-lok and they're still okay....

Most 8.8 cost around 500-600 you can still get them for 300-400 but don't remember if that's only on junkyards... If I remember right the 8.8 weights from 100-150 pounds more..

I also heard that used gears are not the way to go, cuz like already said they make a loud noise....

Here is what I am getting pretty soon.

Ford Racing 8.8 Rear End

Unfortunately I can't find the one for your year. Just keep an eye out and you might come across a good deal.

I may have missed something but I think your thinking about the 8.8.

You dont HAVE to install the quad shocks, but its good to have them for hard launches. I actually done have them installed right now, but need to eventually.

You are getting ripped off if you pay that much for a used 8.8. I paid $250 for mine, but I actually had to do a lot to it to get it running right. But most should be about 250-350. UNLESS it has some really good parts like an eaton tlok and/or mosel axles or something.

Oh and I almost forogt. You can re-use a tlok, but I would have a rebuild done on it, which will cost about $100 or so depending on what your shop charges you. But I would get NEW gears/pinion.

250-350 show me the link? the price had increased 500-600 is the average... and in some cases you may find cheap ones like yours "deals"... 300-400 is still not that expensive.. BTW I mentioned to get new gears, there's no need to repeat it...

I dont need to post any link, go search ebay, craigslist, your local newspapers. You can find deals like that for cheap.

And I will repeat it, if I so choose. You will NOT tell me what to or how to post. So GTFO!
