v6
Okay so i have a 2004 3.9 v6 mustang. All I've done to it so far is dual exhaust and intake. My question is, keeping my car a daily driver (and im a usf student) what should i do to it for <$5000. I'm not going to trade it! i wanna do this little at a time if i can. What should i do to it?

isnt that going to be much more than 5000 with a turbo. plus isnt it pointless to just do a tlok the turbo would make over 300hp which is more than the stock rear can handle

If you get a turbo go 8.8 with a tru-trac.

I would look for the m112 supercharger or a used vortech, procharger from ebay... instead of doing bolt ons it will be a better route to achieve quick and more hp... You will get at least 70hp with it
so 190+70= 260 like a GT or faster.. lol.. Then have it tuned after installed. Get the 8.8 if you want or put a t-lok and gears but theres some good t-lok almost as strong as an 8.8 but if you find one for less than 400 it will be a good idea in my opinion... Then the bolt ons long tubes, full exhaust, udp etc... Last edited by 2002 BLK GT; May 19th, 2009 at 03:19 AM. |

m112 with stock exhaust and no tune would be a horrible idea.

BDS, you do realize that a t-lok is simply Fords brand make of a closed differential right? Ford T-Lok, Auborn Posi, and Detroit Trutrac are all makes of closed differentials. The Auborn posi and Detroit Trutrac are know for being able to handle more hp than the t-lok.

its been shown on this site numerous times a stock rear can handle 400+...its not reccomended, but it would hold a person over...price also involves getting the guy to do craiglist/ebay searches and doing some work himself

+1.... I believe Chris is pushing 400 hp with that, or he switched already dont remember...
But I will say if you plan to go more than 300 then don't get the t-lok... imo Last edited by 2002 BLK GT; May 19th, 2009 at 11:38 AM. |

Follow the stickie for the most part, but also know what you plan to do with the car. Mods will differ for a track car and a daily driver, and again if you wish to run it on autocross. Also the stock 7.5 rear end has been known to hold up to some punishment at times, and then at others the stories say it snaps upon hard launching. I'd say if you're under or around 300hp you can stick with the 7.5 with tlok and gears. Bolt-ons and supporting mods (suspension, brakes) would be first on my list, and make it look like you want it to. Then get into the power mods if the bug still has you (which it will if the money is available). Keep us posted with plans and maybe we'll have to get together one of these days, I'm on campus everyday.

If you want the most power for the cheapest + supporting mods I would go with:
M112 Install: Total about $3.5k or so with tune and gauges. Then you will still have 1.5k for supporting mods. Preferably for a used 8.8 rear end, which you should be able to find for about $<500 And then new wheels and tires for the rest of the 1k. For the most effiecent power and potential: TMA Turbo kit. In total will cost around 4-5k depending on the kit and Tune + gauges. But no supporting mods which means little traction. Or a centerfugial supercharger for around the same price with no supporting mods. Turbo: most effiecient, peak PSI wont be reached until the upper RPMs so its best suited for strip use. M112: Lots of power/boost in the lower RPMs, slight heat issues after EXTENDED use, custom setup, install is more 'complicated' then a normal power adder kit. Best suited for street and track (road corses). Also you could always do full NA with a 4.2 or 4.3 stroker kit. Which would probably cost in all about the full 5k if not a little more depending on who does the labor and the parts you use. This option is nice because you can always come back and install a power adder for GREAT HP numbers. With forged internals you can probably get into 400+ HP with the stroker kit + a power adder. |
