Seafoam
Heard some good things about this product and bought 2 bottles today. i put 1/3 of bottle is crankcase 1/3 in gas tank and the other 1/3 i sucked in through the brake booster line. Boy Did It smoke for a good 15 min. LOL
But my question is this. i just changed my oil like a week ago. and today i just used the seafoam. ive read your supposed to change the oil 100 miles after you seafoam. do i really need to do this? i just put Mobil one 5w30 in and that stuff aint cheap. i would hate to have to change the oil agian after i JUST did it. any thoughts on this? or seafoam in general |

Yes you need to because there wil be a bunch of gunk in your filter and oil. Should have planned it ahead or waited till your next oil change.

Guys guys relax. Definitely change your oil. I would also change your plugs out. As said you should plan ahead for these types of things, if you knew you had changed the oil you could have waited on the sea foam until next oil change, but what's done is done. Just do it right to avoid future problems.

could i use the seafoam to clean out my IAC??
its like carb cleaner right? so can i use it to clean the IAC and possible the MAF sensor? I My idle is erratic sometimes and likes to drop low. somtimes when stoping to. thinking cleaning it is worth it or just buy a NEw IAC and MAF sensor. Last edited by mease87; May 20th, 2009 at 07:19 PM. |

If you have a v6 (not sure what kinda car you have), don't run it through your brake booster line. That line only feeds to half the engine. Run it through your pcv line. This feeds to the entire engine.
And I'm not sure about the seafoam in the crank. Seeing how you didn't know about the 100 miles and then change the oil idea, its not really your fault, but i would change it just to be safe. |

According to an ASE Certified Mechanic, 5w20 is too thin, and 5w30 is a better choice.

Nope, just a mechanic that works at my Public Works building. He works on 10 f550s, 15 crown vic police cars, and about 20 other misc. public works vehicles. He was ranting one day about how stupid someone could be to put in the new 0w20 in their car just to save a few bucks for gas.

5w20 is not to thin, not by a long shot. Unless a car is severe duty there's no reason to run anything above 5w20. In my DD I run 0w20 and in the mustang I run 0w20. Start up is the absolute hardest thing on your engine it does and there is "No" oil on the market that's thin enough on start up to not cause wear so we go for the next best thing, a low initial weight (10w/5w or 0w). 0w is the best choice in EVERY application especially if you're in a cold climate. I don't have time to give everyone a big lesson in oil but If the thread starts going south with bad oil info I'll post again. |

I'll stick with what the manual says and I live in sweltering heat. Unless you're heavily modded or extreme climates stick with what your car's manufacturer says.
