Exhaust and mod ?

Ok so i want to upgrade my exhaust system. The guy that had the car before me made it a true duel setup but i don't like the sound. My ? is.....should i start at the headers and go all new completely back.....I like the flowmaster 40's that are in the exhaust thread with the videos. I alsao wanna keep it legal. Not sure what the laws are here in texas(just moved here from Pa)....another ? i had is i wanna start doing basic mods to the engine (cai, gears, etc) is it worth it if my car has 117k on it. I appreciate the help. I've very ignorant when it comes to cars but i've learned a hell of a lot joining this forum.

You can go with long tube headers but in some places you can pass and in some don't Idk where exactly can you ask.. dmv? how much $ you want or can start.. The mileage is not that bad just do the regular maintenance also depends on how much power you want...
I will start with the cai, then udp, :"remember that you will need a shorty midpipe if you do the long tubes...

hooray for texas , it depends on plano's inspection crap, down here in san antonio we dont have to have cats, up in austin you do... so youll have to look into that, you could just get high flow cats, thatd keep you legal and be a good bit louder, and i think everyone is about spot on with the 40s, or i run 44s, thats a personal preference tho

i thought you had to have cats everywhere in the US to be fully legal. i'm in MS and you are supposed to have cats but they never check.

Agreed, I believe it is across the board illegal to run catless on the streets. However, as is in MS, just as here in FLA, they never ever ever ever inspect your car fo shat. Nothing.

let me rephrase, they dont check exhaust for inspection in San Antonio, there are a lot of people from austin that come get their inspection done down here, or if you know a guy who will do it no matter what thats helpful, i just slip 10 bucks to a mexican muffler shop and PRESTO, inspection sticker lol

cai does nothing for a first mod...and is a waste of money...a cotton fiber drop in filter is all a stock sixxer needs...now take the cai money and buy some gears down the road...

If he has money for exhaust I don't think that he wont for the cai at the same time plus its not only gears he need to pay to have them installed... which gets expensive.

i can only explain this so many times...CAI are worthless except for looks on a stock sixxer...but i guess looks are whats important to some...

and to the OP...the best mod you can get will be gears and a tlok for your car...im still saving for mine, but it's worth it...for those of us who have driven sixxers w/ them (including me)...we will agree that this is a good first or second mod (exhausts can be done for good prices if handled right)

I know you wont get to much hp from it but its necessary to have one especially when you're ready to tune it..

plus again I said with the exhaust not by itself...

still wouldn't do anything...and why would anyone tune a car w/ only a cai and an exhaust...sounds like a bad idea to me...now tuning after gears and a tlok...that makes sense...

That is not entirely true. Even if you take out the silencer on the stock intake tube it still isnt going to flow as smoothly as a CAI. But I see what you are saying, the gain is negligable.

And yeah gears are great in terms of the feel when driving even though you dont actually gain any power. But I think its preference in the end. do you want to feel faster or sound better?

Also yes running catless is 100% illegal nation wide even though you may not have to get inspected, let a cop pull you over that wants to make an example outta you. With that said, if you want to get LTs just get some hi flow cats to throw on there so its technically legal.

i know i have a gt and you guys have sixxers but i still dont have a cai and dont plan on getting one for a little while. id rather do gears, clutch and flywheel, and suspension work. if you wanna do something with your intake just take the restricter off and buy a better filter. its what i did.

i agree with 6er 100% gears is a more worth while buy, especially with the way your guys sixxers are geared.
