I was looking at buying a set of gauges and they were not exactly cheap since I'd have to buy the pods, gauges, hassle of installing them etc.. plus I didn't like the looks of them that are available for my stang.
So since my tuner has live data streaming capabilities, I looked up the code for what the computer says the fluid temperature is. The code is TFT (transmission fluid temperature). I did one test when I first first warmed up the car and then another after driving the car a while. It read in Celcius though but you can do the math like this.
(degrees Celsius X 1.8) + 32 = Fahrenheit. Or there's a few websites you can find conversion tables that's for sure. But this is pretty easy to remember.
I just thought I'd share this for anyone that's curious about their Automatic Transmissions Fluid temperature. As most know, heat is a automatic killer. Go to
Welcome to B&M Racing & Performance Products! and look at their super cooler etc.. mine is a 70264 (14,400btu) It has a table on it showing temperatures and how long your tranny will most likely live given that temperature. I discovered with out a doubt that after installing my performance torque converter that my tranny fluid temp went up quite a bit - not good.
I do have a deeper and lighter than normal tranny pan that holds two extra quarts with magnetic drain plug - nice feature by the way, and I use PAO base stock synthetic ATF. The drain plug sure makes tranny fluid changes much easier. Even if you're going to take the pan off to change the filter. You don't have to mess with loosening bolts on one side etc.. you know the drill - it's just a plain Ol' pain and mess.
