uhh im pretty sure the 4.0 from an older explorer is the same block as the 3.8, if its not the 3.8 is one of the strongest block ford has made

the top end is what your wanting to be better if you want to supercharge and in that case. just rebuild your 3.8 top end itll be easier and more cost efficient that the exploder swap

ah. ok. I understand now.

If you are going to take the time to pull out the 3.8 just bore and stroke it to a 4.2. the essex block is plenty strong. There is a member here with a 497rwhp v6 on the stock block.

I have no idea, but unless you are shooting for over 650 rwhp I doubt you need to worry about it honestly.

i dont know about thicker cylinder walls, but yes on the rods. the 3.8 block is far stronger though. a built 3.8 > a built 4.0

Are you saying it already has Hooker duels?

Because this is what I think you are trying to type:

The 4.0L explorer engine without any modifications to the engine cavity and already has catback Hooker duels

Nevermind I'm still confused

That makes two of us.

I would assume this is a budget thing. I'm no expert on Ford V6s, but I would think that it would be cheaper to swap in the Exploder 4.0 for some extra displacement than it would be to stroke the 3.8 to a 4.2L.

im guessing the OP was saying the 4.0 has no mods done to it, but it has a hooker dual catback

if you swap the 4.0 to the mustang, you cant use the same exhaust from the explorer anyways, you will need to get a custom exhaust system.

i dunno... i cant think of anyone who has done the swap so we dont know what all is involved... i know it will be way more than just dropping in the engine... not to mention tuning and everything

Oh, you wouldn't be able to retain the Mustang heads/intake/sensors/wiring/ecu?

I figured that it would just be a shortblock swap, but I guess that's a bad assumption to make, lol.
