FML failed smog/missing evap charcoal canister?!
Hey guys, blah I swear nothing is ever easy. I took my 1994 v6 today to a "test-only" smog station as required, left my car for 30 min, and came back to hear that I failed smog! My emissions are totally fine but apparently my car is "missing" the fuel evap canister?
How does that even happen? I passed smog fine 2 years ago but don't know if the guy checked for the charcoal canister. I bought the car used in about 2006 and definitely didn't take it out, and I see no reason why the original owner would've. Anyway, my questions are as follows: Can the canisters just fall out? Or is there a reason to take them out? I've found a few online but is anybody parting their car/will this one from ebay fit? Aside from the canister itself do I need to buy anything else and how difficult of an install is it? Thanks everybody!! -Alex

Check to make sure you don't have a broken hose first. That is the most common reason for the evaporative emissions control failure. If you didn't take it out, I doubt it's missing. It should be located under your passenger side fender. It's not bad to replace if you remove the tire and the splash guard.

1994 94 FORD MUSTANG GT Vapor Canister Purge Valve:eBay Motors (item 190305313468 end time Jun-03-09 07:32:25 PDT)
That's for a gt but you can get an idea, and the price is around 60 bucks and yes its located inside the fender on the passenger side you will need to remove the wheel.

Okay so I ordered a used one including the hoses and valve off ebay (thank god, saved me an arm and leg) and rummaged around under my car today looking for my old one (maybe the guy was retarded) but didn't find anything. Im checking around where my cold air intake filter is, if thats the right area. Anyway does anybody happen to have pictures or a diagram of the evap canister on their mustang so I have some Idea what im doing? Thanks for your time guys!

You should have one vacuum line leading from under the intake, over to the passenger's side of the firewall. That vacuum line attaches to a cylinder that has an electrical connector to it - this is the CANP. The hose continues on the other end of the CANP and leads into the fender to the charcoal canister. Lay me find a pic sorry for the late reply.
