Turbo or Supercharger?

I was originally thinking about getting a supercharger, mainly because i was told they're cheaper, and that's good for my current situation, but a lot of people on here seem to be getting turbo. So, my question is, should i go turbo or supercharger. Explain which will do what and how it will affect the car and everything, and price estimates. I'm not sure how much these things go for. Oh, and if it matters, i have an automatic.

Well both are forced induction, and do the same basic concept...make power, and lots of it.

Turbos are more efficient seeing as how they run off of exhaust gasses, but are harder to tune, are more expensive, and there is turbo lag. Those are the biggest problems with why people don't get one...cept for the efficiency part.

Supercharger takes power to make power because it is belt driven, isn't as efficient. But they are cheaper, easier to install, and easier to tune.

Both have there strong points and both have there weak points. I love turbos because well one I know them, and know how to work on them, they are more efficient, I love the sound of them, and nothing really can compare to being inside of a turbo car in my opinion. I am a turbo fan, but won't knock superchargers.

Well the inline 6 in the Supra responds extremely well to boost, and is just an amazing engine to be able to handle as much boost as it does, yes it does have it limits, but it is truly an amazing engine. Buddy of mine is about to drop a SR20DET into his 240sx...I was pushin for the RB26DETT, but that didn't work out too well.

ooh, SR20DET...lol i dont think there's any of those around here. Where would you get your hands on an RB26? I figured those would be as hard to find as the Skyline they came out of.

i learned this yesterday .

change your manifold . find a shop that does custom works . change your engine to a DOHC and go for V6QT [ V6 Quattro Turbo ] and youll be burning ricers all day =D .

if not then just get a single turbo . can you even get S/C on auto?

Turbos take time to wind up and give you the boost so there's a lag between when it starts and when the actual power boost occurs

you wouldnt be able to do it alone if you dont know much about cars . leave it to the shops. if your planning to install it by yourself get a S/C

turbos dont produce much boost until they are high in the rpms.. s/c produce good boost in the entire power band... but when the turbos do spool up and give boot... wave bye to whoever you are racing lol

hmmmm......i guess im the only s/c fan in here.....i prefer the the s/c....easier to tune, no lag, three year full waranty, and to get more boost just get a different pulley.....also i have a question about turbos that been bugging me....u can turbo a vehicle how many times u want? like i went to a tractor pull (its redneck country) and this guy with a john deere in some pro outlaw class said his 2cyl engine was a "quad turbo"....i asked him to show me under the hood....ill be damned 4 turbos wtf???? is this logical on cars and dont u build up back preasure to a certian point where u start loosing power?

There is a great turbo thread floating around here somehere...I'll find it for ya if nobody beats me to the punch.

Also Youngin you can supercharge a car of any style transmission...poweradders in no way directly affect your transmission
