5.0 to replace 3.8

I'm gonna get a 5.0 engine and transmission in my 2002 to replace my 3.8. How hard will it be to swap?

you'd need new engine mounts etc. i personally wouldnt do it, because of the many requirments. but hey, i know the feeling. welcome to modded mustangs!

im assuming its either a used or a "stock-like" crate 5.0? if so i say dont waste your time and money. put a better engine in it. maybe the 5.4L in the cobra r or the 4.6L 4v of the svt cobra. the 5.0 by itself isnt that powerful.

Thanx for the advice. The 5.0 engine and transmission i could get for $1500, that was the only reason I was going with that one, and just mod the hell out of it

foxbodies are a dime a dozen. Get a car with a 5.0 still in it. I know you want to be different and keep the car you have but why dont you just keep your car and get a fox or sell it and get a fox?

351 Windsor if you want an engine swap. Or a 4.2l stroker crate

well the 351 is an easier drop than the 5.0 but you still need new tranny and other various parts. the 4.2l stroker is just a new 3.8 with a stroker kit on it you can get one for 2 grand and maybe another 2 grand for install you'll be in the 200 horses range already with that. Or you can just mod the 3.8 that would be your best bet get a power pak or stroker kit whats your budget look like?

Well getting money is no prob, I cant just go and by a Cobra or n e thing like that cuz off my credit so I wanna mod the hell of of this one. I really cant go internal right now because i need to drive it to work. I was looking at that livewire tuner, should i start bolt-ons first or just get the tuner then add them on?

get the bolt ons first so you can just get the tuner preloaded with a tune for all of them

find a 5.0 with a good chassis and rebuild it ground up turn it into your drag car.. we all know 5.0s are popular dragsters weight to power ratio is pretty nice

pretty much you'll have a good begging set up there I like it I did the x-cal early just because I needed a tune bad for my shift kit.
