Bad gas Mileage
Ok my car is a 2000 v6 mustang and its been getting about 170miles on a full tank of gas i Think something is wrong. I have a CAI and I just cleaned and re-oiled it but that hasn't made much of a difference. When I got the car a year ago I could get maybe 250miles out of a full tank now i'm lucky to get 160 and with the economy the way it is filling up hurts me pretty bad even though its a v6 but to add to the fact that I have bills and am in college don't help. I had the spark plugs checked around december and from what I was told they were platinum and were still in excellent condition I have driven about 10k miles since then. I don't think the O2 sensor is bad cause it passed emissions 2months ago but what do I know. Is a fuel leak more likely than something mechanically with the engine? well there is this leak that forms near the exhaust pipe right around where the gas line goes into the tank I don't know if its water but i dont think so cause the pipe doesnt have a hole in it and was just checked by an exhaust shop when I had my super 44's but on two months ago. Someone please help it's really cutting my spending money and I have to drive because work is 7+ miles away as is college and my friends and I can't move to a diff location. thanks.

First do the simple things like checking your tires pressure. are those stats from freeway/city or just city? I used to get 15mpg but considering my extra weight of the wheels I think is okay, then I had my flanged cracked plus driving it till 4k rpms dropped to 10mpg, Next fill up It was fixed, putted some air in the rear tires then 12mpg now I will drive slower and will see. lol ( and yes I fill it till more than 15 gallons close to 15.700, same pump same route) so my stats are correct.
Raise the car if you smell fuel then it could be, change the fuel filter while there... do you smell fuel when driving? bad idle or something like that.? and Welcome to modded mustangs..... Last edited by 2002 BLK GT; June 13th, 2009 at 03:21 PM. |

get your fuel injectors checked out, also your fuel filter.
I use to get 14 mpg I asked my mechanic to clean the fuel injectors and change the fuel filter and now I get 17 MPG.

holy hell, I got almost 30 on the highway and about 25 in town but I do drive pretty conservatively, and the wheels are stock 17's but your 6'er should definitely be getting better gas mileage. Btw I haven't driven the mustang in a while to know what I get now, b/c the clutch is bad.

+1 i changed out my fuel injectors, and in the process, found out that they had a little of a leak where it connects to the fuel rail (think it had to do with the o-ring mostly).
