Missing in cylinder 1 - Are there any people who know how to read spark plug color?

I have a 2000 Mustang V6 with auto transmission with 90,000 miles on it and NO mods done.

Issue:
The engine gives me a constant Code of 0301 - Missing in # 1 cylinder. (Attached in a picture of the current spark plug that is it) with about 15,000 miles on them

I have the EGR Valve Vacuum unplugged because when it is hooked up, I get a very bad miss (under load between 1200-1500 RPM)

This is what I replaced.

New Accel Coil - The factory one had a short in it.
Cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor
New PCV Valve
New EGR Valve
New Spark Plug wires
New Air Filter
New Camshaft Syncronizer

Any ideas?

The problem with the EGR is probably the differential pressure sensor or the vacuum solenoid.

The plug has a lot of carbon on it, like it isn't firing, but the coil and wires are new.

I would do a compression check and see if #1 has low compression.

Another possibility is a bad injector on #1.

I can barely see the tip but does it have a green tint to it?

Didn't even look TOO bad to me, but obviously something since you're missing and getting a code... I agree with compression testing and afterwords new or cleaned injector... replace the plug or all plugs as well (has it been occurring with other plugs?) Haynes Manual has a great color photo chart of plug conditions, I'm at work now though... I'll try to match up what yours looks like if it is similar to any noted conditions.

Mine had a missfire in #8 at 50k miles and it was a bad injector. They are EASY to change out and should be a 10 minute job (depending on how much shit is covering #1 but I don't think it's much).

lol i wouldnt call that good at all, you are not getting any fuel into that cylinder. i wouldnt be running that car right now, before you go get a new injector go get them cleaned at a local auto shop or do it yourself, $20-$40 to get the injectors/rail cleaned, you might just have a clog or something, and check to make sure you have good compression yet on the cylinder while you got the spark plug out

The picture isn't very clear, but there is a lot of carbon on the metal outside part of the plug above the threads. The porcelain insulator is very clean though.

If the cylinder is getting no gas, I don't see how it would run hot, since there would be no flame.

I would still check for a bad injector. It's one of the causes of a misfire in one cylinder.

its still sparking even tho there is no fuel or little fuel in there, he could possibly have fuel running to it on idle but on wot hes not, eitherway it looks to be a gas related isssue

I have had good luck with Witchhunter performance for getting injectors cleaned and tested. Google them. You need to remove the injectors and ship them in and they will clean and flow test them and mail them back for about $15 per injector. This also includes new o-rings.

To remove the injectors you need to remove the upper intake manifold and fuel rail.

That's not how I had to remove mine on my 03 GT (I realize it's a different car but it must be similar). All I had to do was disconnect the plug from it, remove the two bolt holding the fuel rail down, pull up on the fuel rail a little, pull the injector out.

No removing the intake manifold or fuel rail. Just getting the rail up enough to get the injector out (#1 should be the same as it's on the end).

I believe the shop manual says to take the upper intake manifold out. It might be possible to do it without removing the upper intake.

This is a picture of the engine with the upper intake in place.

complete engine picture by swalch - Photobucket

I can't even see the injectors or fuel rail, but whatever works.

It could be different (I can't see the picture at work) as mine is a V8 and the one in question is a V6. On mine the rail is right there next to the plugs/coil packs.
