just go for it and take them off and c if u like the sound it will definately be louder. and perrsonally i like the sound of the v6 and i am sure that if u want it louder removing them will make it definately louder. and on the check engine light someone can prob put a link to the mil eliminators that trick the computer into thinkin it has cats.

just for reference, when i first bought my car, it had flow 40's on it, but it also had two of the stock cats. i could not hear it at all, it was almost like stock (almost). i took them off and there was a load of difference.

One difference between v6 and v8 is that the v6 fires alternately on the left and right side, but v8 engines fire unevenly between the two sides. Not sure about the precise firing order on a v8 but one could look it up.

Just a bit of trivia. A typical V8 firing order is

1-5-4-3-6-2-7-8

If you draw it it's firing alternately from left to right and down one side. Thus,
you don't get alternate right left exhaust pulses, which causes a different sound and is one reason why v8 exhausts typically have an H pipe with the two sides connected by a pipe.

When you get them removed tell the mechanic you want the cats back or he can keep them but you want free labor. If you get the cats back you can sell them as they have precious metal in them. I would never pay a mechanic to cut the cats out and let him keep them.

ok my mechanic is telling me their is 4 cats 2 small and 2 big. he is asking me do I remove them all. I told him yes. What you guys think? whats the small ones for?
He also removed the O2 sensors. Will this be bad on gas? I am buying the tuner to shut the CE LIGHT.

You can only remove the rear 02 sensors, car needs the front.

No, just remove the last 2 you will loose backpressure, do you have an h or x midpipe? dunno about mpg, plus if a cop stops you they wont know that you suppost to have 4 cats. (Prolly)

Just with 2 removed it will sound loud, I dont remember what you have so please tell me again, Brand exhaust? just mufflers? depending on the charge price, get hi flow cats....

+1 otherwise it doesn't have the inputs to adjust the fuel air ratio.

You won't be able to pass an emission test if your state requires one.

It's a violation of federal law for a mechanic to remove the converters.

This all varies from state to state. In Calif. you need OBD II compliant converters and the exhaust has to be completely OEM.
