removing the catalytic converters is bad?

Is it bad for the engine or HP to remove the catalytic converters?
Will I loose any HP or torque?

I just want my exhaust to sound louder thats why I want to remove it.

Im pretty sure youll lose some back pressure which means you'll lose some low end power. But it should increase top end horsepower a little.

Yep, what mufflers do you have?

Removing cats form stock exhaust produces an odd sound.

I thought you said that you wanted to stay legal? It will sound bad with the stock ones if its an aftermarket not that much depending on the set up.

I have flowmasters super 44's
I wanted to stay legal I thought the sound of the mufflers will be good enough. But I can like hear all the other exhaust driving around they are way louder than mine. will removing the cats with flowmasters 44s sound good?

anyone has a clip?

My current setup is Straight pipes with 44's

1.) does not sound like a GT.

2.) It may be as loud as one, but does not sound like one.

3.) Get somebody else to drive your car, and you drive their car and have them pass you up. You would be surprised. I used to think everybody's car sounded louder until I actually had somebody DRIVE my car while I wasn't in it.

At idle you can get it pretty close to a GT. Anything above that though, no way. I like ot put it like this, you might be able to get the same tone as the GT but not the same note(because of the firing order, and obviously 2 more cylinders). A guy in a GT pulled up by us at the end of the day wprking yesterday and I thought it was a 6 til he pulled away, then you hear the V8.

Experience. Hang around enough of 'em, and you'll figure it out. Best way I can describe it is that V8s sound a little deeper and "rougher".

It's the same thing as hearing the difference between a V8 and a V12, or between an I4, a flat-4, and a V6. They all have their own unique sound.

I would look into music theory to explain it. I think being a different "note" is very accurate. At the same rpm, a V6 is going to produce a sound 75% of the frequency of a V8. If we assume that a V8 is making an 'A' (440 Hz) at a certain rpm, a V6 at that same rpm would produce 330Hz, which is about an 'E', a V12 would produce a note that's at 150% of the frequency, or 660 Hz, which is also an 'E', but of twice the "pitch" of the V6.

Exhaust routing has a lot to do with it to. The above example assumes that you have headers that put each pulse in line. Typical domestic headers don't do that, and you have gaps in the sound.... "baht baht .... baht baht baht baht baht.... baht", which is also going to change the tone, maybe give you multiple "notes" at once...

You'll have to forgive me, my music theory knowledge is stretched to it's limit at this point, hahaha.

Don't be stupid.
A v6 wont ever sound like a GT, its not possible without swapping the motor.

Didn't say it won't sound GOOD, just it will never sound like a gt.
