It's a five speed... The guy claims it'll be $400 including the gears, I just hope he does a good job.

Hopefully he does a good job on it. Don't want to get you nervous, but maybe he gets used gears really cheap so he didn't mind adding them in. Do you have the tuner to correct the speedometer?

Yeah I thought about that. I'm going to give him a call when I get back from vacation... I think I'll propose supplying the parts and having him do just the labor. I'm also looking to find another performance shop around here to get a second opinion, particularly after he's installed the parts.

You know what they say... If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It's probably fine. I've heard of people having their gears installed for around $300, which is about what yours would be before you throw in the actual gears themselves.

Yeah I hope so. Someone suggested I write up a contract for him to sign specifying the exact labor I wish for him to do. It sounds like a good idea in theory however I'm not sure how to go about that exactly.

It would be safer to do something like that, but I'm not sure I'd really bother with it. As long as you've drilled it into him that you want 3.73s, and he writes it on your work order receipt, I think you'll be fine. I'd suggest jacking the car up after you get it back, and spin the tires and count driveshaft revolutions to make sure you actually got the right ratio installed.

Ive been thinking of doing motive 4.10s and FRPP T-lok too, but how reliable are the FRPP T-loks? and doesn't the speedometer need some kind of adjustment after the mod?

You can break a tlok under stock power if you launch hard enough. I'm assuming since you are considering 4.10s, that you have an auto. If this is the case, I seriously doubt you'll break a tlok anytime soon unless you have some serious power upgrades on the way. You'll need a tuner to adjust the speedometer so it is correct.

yeah I have an auto, and as for the kind of power I'm aiming for just check my shopping list under my sig. I don't plan on pushing any super fantastical power since I have no plans for a blower. I'm fully prepared to invest in a Detroit trutrac just to avoid the possibility of the FRPP getting trashed easily.

I've heard of t-loks broken on n/a cars, however from what I understand it's fairly rare.
