HID flicker then shutoff problem...help!!!

so i just bought an hid kit (xentec to be specific) with harness ballasts and bulbs. i wired everything up the way the manual specified to do it and one of the lights flickers for like 1 or 2 seconds then shuts off (i had my mom stand in front of the car and watch the light flicker, or else it would be too fast and i wouldnt be able to see it). one thing i noticed is that when it flickers and shuts off, and then i turn the lights off, and turn them back on, that one light doesnt flicker, it just doesnt go on. so i went and popped the bulb out and i noticed the base that the bulb sits on was a little slanted, so i pushed the base, without touching the bulb itself, and i heard it click back into place (almost like what happens when a circut breaker has to be reset in your house). then i went to go and turn the light back on and it flashed again for 1-2 seconds and shut off. so ive concluded maybe everytime i flip on the lights the "breaker" on the bulb flips and it has to be put back into place. i figured the bulb is not bad, nor is the ballast as i have tried the working bulb in both ballasts, and all is well with that one. i have been reading about people installing capacitors, so i bought a capacitor from radio shack (a 470uf, part no. 272-1030) but i dont know how to connect it to the ballast if it even is supposed to connect to it (should i splice it in?). someone please help, im driving around at night with only 1 working bulb and foglights as auxilliary.

Do you turn your lights on before you start your car?

grounded good. bulb is good ive looked at it to the point where i was able to figure out that clicky "breaker" think i mentioned above. *turns lights on with car on*. still no luck though trying this capacitor, i just dont know where to put it. i also heard you can put it into the relay, but the only thing that i think might be the relay is something called a hi/lo controller box. it seems like a relay but idk? any other suggestions?

I would start by switching bulbs to balasts. Basically, you currently have bulb A connected to balast A and bulb B connected to balast B. Try connecting bulb A to balast B and bulb B to balast A. See if the problem stays with the bulb or balast.

^ ya i tried that too, thanks though, lol, balasts are good and the other bulb works on both ballasts. that one faulty bulb i have been talking about is the culprit, but because of that clicking "breaker" thing, i have reason to believe that the bulb may be good and i just need a capacitor?? can anyone confirm this?

the way i see it is that you shouldnt need anything extra if you got a full kit. i would check to make sure the connection to the ballast is good on that side. where did you ground it on the car? u might need to make sure there isnt a lot of paint where u grounded it and make sure it is on there tight, a loose ground can cause it and eventually screw up ur ballast

Your bulb shouldnt be doing the clicking/breaker thing. replace the bulb.

one thing i noticed was the resistor for stock lights was different then the one needed for the HIDs. check the owners manual for the diagram of the fuses find the stock one and then check the instructions to see what fuse is recommended for the HIDs. if they are the same then i guess thats not the problem.

On your ballast there are two connections, one connection is to your headlight wiring harness and the other connects to your bulb. Unplug the one that goes to your bulb and flip it to the other side and plug it back in, its a little snug but it will fit. Mine also flickered when i JUST bought the kit, and after i did that its worked fine ever since..

Do NOT change any fuses in your stock wiring. Fuses are designed to protect the wiring and are not dependent on the load. Changing the fuse size will increase the risk of starting a fire. The stock wiring fuse is not the problem.

ya ground is ok, the manual said to ground it to the green screw in front of the battery, so its nice and tight. but i really thought about it and came to a final conclusion, that the bulb is faulty (did the whole switcheroo thing with the bulbs, and one of them works on both sides no matter what, and the other doesn't work on either side). the guy i bought it from is sending me a new bulb as a replacement and hopefully that should work. i got a lot of responses from everyone, and i would like you all to know that i really appreciate all your help, you guys are one of the few honest ones i can turn to in time of need so thanks.
