well i've been doing my research and everywhere i look it says that i have to get the speedcal or whatever to adjust my speedometer if i get gears..just cuz my car is a stick. It says you can use a tuner if you have an auto otherwise you gotta get the speedcal???

As I am just looking to improve the performance from stock, I will most likely go with the 3.73 gears if 75 mph is at 3K rpms. I consistently do 80-85 (at 2K rpms) on the highway and sometimes up to 90 if I have to pass a group. That will probably put me around 4K rpms, which is a bit higher than I would like to be on a normal and extended basis.
what tranny? i have 4.10s and at 75mph i am at EXACTLY 3k rpms
85 is <3400rpms as well. 120 is less than 4500. i redline at 6k.

these numbers are 100% accurate. i have checked them and compared to stock dozens of times, the mpg does not suffer, and i personally would not take your "estimates" seriously
I think that we are at the start of a misunderstanding, which I would like to avoid.

My statements above were complete estimates and closer to guesses at what I might experience if I go with 4.10 gearing. In no way did I ever say that I thought your numbers were false or that my attempts at an estimate were even partially based upon mathematical reasoning.

With the additional numbers that you provided then I would be fine with 4.10 gears after all.

In answer to your question about what transmission, I have an automatic but do not know the actual designation. My car is a 2006 V6 convertible if that helps any.

Sorry if I have confused anyone or caused them to think that I was being argumentative as that was not the case. I am merely trying to ensure that I make the best decision for me and what I want to do with my car.

I guess i just found out how professionally this site is run, considering the language used by the site moderator. I hate it when sites like this are run by juveniles.

I have caught the tail end of this and I do not care to read back and see what was said but as a general rule I tell people that for a v6 mustang 3.73 gears will work better for a manual transmission and 4.10 is more suited for an auto. Reason being is that 1st gear in a manual with 4.10 would be so short that you would be shifting as soon as you took off and in an auto the rpm switch can accomodate that sudden rise in RPM's better than a human reaction time can.

aight... AB and Turp question for you two...

will 4.10's have to short of a first gear in a 5 speed 97 that reds at 4.5k?

i think that will help move this conversation along

Would you prefer the facts or estimates when dealing with what is economically considered the second-largest investment purchase you will make (though will be made numerous times)?

I know a guy with a 2000 5-speed v6 who has 3.73:1 ring and pinions. His name is Adam from V6Power.net, and he met me at Carolina Dragway and at SGMP in Cecil, GA last year. Anyway, we both have the exact same mods, and run the exact same times. He said that he sometimes wishes he had the 4.10s for the track launches, and because of his 5th gear overdrive, the highway revs are no concern. The concern is the short 1st gear as Turp said.
