B Springs, Power Rack, And End Links.

My new springs are on their way to my house now and of course I'm excited.

But guess what has to dampen my mood like a wet towel...
My power steering rack blows out! I guess one of the seals inside finally gave way and it started leaking out of the boot on the drivers side. Not to worry. I'll get a new one and do everything at once!

Oh and the end links are in poor shape too. I think this is going to be one of those on the ground installs... Oh boy.

Ouch, first your torque converter goes, and now your steering rack blows out? Terrible luck man

On another note, did you ever get some lift time so you could install your gears?

Nope. Which really sucks.

I don't have the special tools at home that I need. I think it's going to be about 4 months till I can get the time I need for that.

I know it's bad luck but hey worse has happened. My car is still in one piece... for now.

The rack is an easy install as well as the springs. I'm pretty good with steering and suspension work.

I'm hoping that the B springs are the kind that I don't need the CC plates for. If I do, oh well. I have to wait for the springs to settle any way.

Yeah. The anticipation is killing me.

The B Spring is supposed to drop 1.25 all around. It's a firmer spring than the C spring but not as low as the F.

What kind of changes would you expect from your new springs as far as driving comfort?

Also, that's great that your experienced enough to fix these setbacks yourself. I know most people would be freaking out about now. But defiantly look on the bright side, once its fixed, that's one less thing to worry about for a long long time

I expect it to be a bit rougher. The B spring has a Front spring rate of 425/530 and rear of 200/300 where as the C spring has 650 and 200/300.

I don't think it will be a huge difference but I think it will help when cornering.

Yeah, it's nice to know this sort of stuff, but it's also a pita that I still have to do this crap. The car only has 60k on it.

Yeah, in your other thread about the gears you seemed super excited about buying them.

Hopefully you get a full 1.25'' drop out of them. I have steeda sports, which I believe are supposed to be somewhere between 1-1.25'' all around, and I'm still not as low as I think I need to be. Unfortunately, my cats aren't even a soda can's height off the ground, so I'm not sure if I'll try to go lower.

I am really excited so this realllllly sucks.

I know it's not much of a drop but I hope that it will at least be noticeable. I'm really doing it more so for the feel than the look. My system is pretty low to the ground too, so I don't want to go much more than 1.5 all around. That's asking for trouble. Do you have a picture of your settled springs? I'd like to see it.

I'm almost positive I don't have any pictures on my laptop, but I'm running a search right now to see if they pop up somewhere. I can run out tomorrow and snap a few if you'd like.

Well, I'm waiting for the springs to ship out now, the rack should be here tomorrow, along with the end links.

Another neat tidbit of information that I found out about my car is that it has the "sport" steering package.

The only differance as far as I can tell is the pinion ratio.

Got the rack in.

But the springs were shipped out late, so it's gonna be a bit before I get those in.

I'm just glad I can drive it again. I tell you it's like I've got separation anxiety or something.

I bought them from stangmods.com

Heres the page. They ship slow sometimes, so if you need them in a hurry make sure you select the faster shipping.

Ford Racing Lowering Springs from StangMods.com

On another note, my springs arrived and I'll be putting them in Monday.

EDIT!!!

Got the springs put in today. Took me about 3 hours because of unforeseen complications. In the end I still have to wait for them to settle a little more. I'm aligning it on Thursday.

I had to remove the top front isolators because I didn't have a spring compressor. I don't think it makes much of a ride height difference without the isolators. The ride is good and firm, it can take corners a lot better now. Body roll was minimized as was nose dive and throw back. Over all I'm expecting another .25" drop before aligning it.

Ok so here is the finished product compared to a similar angle of the car before the drop.

They are B springs, not C springs. Thanks for the information though.
