7.5 Differental


Discussing 7.5 Differental in the V6 Mustangs Forum. Hey Guys. I don't know much about the V6 cars and need some info. ...

7.5 Differental

Hey Guys. I don't know much about the V6 cars and need some info. I need info on a 2002 model.

1. Are the factory differentials posi units or open carriers?
2. Is there a clutch pack like an 8.8?
3. If so, can you get a rebuild kit?

I have a car that the rear end is grabbing and letting go. It doesn't lock the wheels. It's more like applying the brake and letting it go.

Any thoughts other than the rearend?

#1 the v6 is not a posi unit its an open diff
#2 im going to say no because they are completely different rear ends
#3 yes u can get better gears and a posi unit for yout 7.5 rear ends this is recomended

and as for your last question does the vehicle have TCS it may be a malfunctioning tcs unit rather then your rear end or yes a fucked rear end could cause that.

For your last problem check your brakes to see that they are working properly first of all, and then move your way in and then up to see if you can find any problems associated with that.

I understand that the 8.8 and 7.5 are different BUT the carriers are the same design. You can replace the clutches in the stock 8.8.

I also understand you can get aftermarket parts but I want parts to repair the factory components,

I understand that the 8.8 and 7.5 are different BUT the carriers are the same design. You can replace the clutches in the stock 8.8.

the factory components suck ass seriously consider a posi at least it will give u a hell of alot better traction

turn off the TCS and see if that helps also may be a seized emergency break and have you pulled the plug on the rear end stick ur pinky figure in there and pull it out is the gear oil silver or is there visible metal shavings? could have smoked a spider gear.

The car belongs to a 16 year old high school kid and he has no interest in a posi. He pulled the tires off the rear and his dad inspected the brakes and said they were OK. Don't think its a spider gear because it doesn't get worse when it is in a turn. I am having him trailer the car to our shop tonight and we are going to pull the rear cover off.

We have built a truck load of 8.8s but not 7.5s. That's why the questions about replacement clutch packs etc.

Hadn't thought about the traction control though.

exterior check of breaks don't tell much i beleive the rear break is a drum/caliper combo the drum being the emergency break and the caliper being the master break system on the rear and if the break shoes inside are binding when the wheel changes speed that could cause a shudder i suppose.

Well it turned out to be a busted spider gear. Does anyone know if you can buy them separately?

are you sure it hasn't chewed everything els up? last time i smoked a spider gear i needed a whole new end because it got chewed up in the rest of the rear end

for #2, the clutch packs are for the t-lok differential. you can get a 7.5" frpp t-lok and frpp ring and pinion gear sets, rebuild kit, shims, friction modifier, etc. from "drivetrain specialists" off ebay for a good package deal. that is where i got mine.

During one wheel peel outs, if your speedo is reading 80 MPH, the spinning tire is turning twice that speed - 160 MPH. This also over spins the spider gears which lead to metal gaulding, loss of metal temper, metal fatigue, fracture, and breakage. I'd say that boy's been having fun.

The rearend is NOT chewed up. The ring and pinion are fine. I thought the kid might be having fun too but when we got under the car there is NO tire rubber in the wheelwells. I believe the spider gear just broke.

well if ur confident then fix er up but i would still recommended a posi but thats just me if he dont want it then dont get it

I've seen more often than not the R&P undamaged from broken SGs. Just clean all the debris out well. Replace the carrier bearings atleast. The spiders can't take much abuse. They are the weakest link.
