Exhaust

I'm looking at putting an x-pipe on my car, and eventually do shorty headers, but I can't find a cat back that I know will fit and give that sound I want to get. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well the most cost effective way is to use GT take-offs.

My cat back setup is from a 2004 Mach1, I got it for $150.

My buddy has a V6 w/ O/R H and original 40 series Flows and it sounds great for a 6. You should look into an H if your looking to swap. The shories will do nothing but help the sound as well so G/L w/ whatever yo do....

i have long tubes and an off road H to a magnaflow cat back. the way to get sound out of our v6s is to ditch the catalytic converters. flowmasters have a great sound, but at high rpm you get annoying, and the drone at cruise can get annoying.

i absolutely love my mac long tubes, o/r H, to maganflow combo. ceramic coated headers to stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing looks great and sounds awesome. everyone asks me if i have a v8 and flowmasters

Honestly if I could go with that setup I would, but I they don't make longtubes for the 98, and the x-pipe i was looking at already had the cats, since I kinda need them in VA. Also I can't find an h-pipe with cats on them.

well if you will have cats, get flowmasters if you want it loud and muscular. the magnaflows are a quiet muffler and i got them because i knew at the time that long tubes were in my future and i dont want to draw too much attention.

also there is this muffler called force mufflers. they are basically half priced flowmasters under a different name. something to look at for a chambered muffler...

no man. i never got the vid camera because i had some intake manifold and harmonic balancer problems with the stang that took out some money for parts. but it looks like i wont have the 8.8" rear by the time the end of march comes, so i will start looking at some more video camera stuff soon.

just dont do somehting like get magnapacks, glasspacks, or loudmouth (or similar) mufflers for your v6..

Sounds like a plan, but before you get your exhaust you should try and find a sound clip w/ both the X & H. The H produces a deeper sound which most people w/ V6's want. As I said a few posts up my buddy had an O/R H w/ 40 Series Flows on his 6 and the sound is really deep for a 6 until about 3700 rpm. But I'd do the H, the sound is much better in my opinion. But G/L w/ whatever you do

im thinkin about gettin Pace Setter TFX Performance Kat-Back w/ an adapter kit and some underdrive pulleys. Do u think that exhaust is a good idea or not. if not wat should i go with. And wat are the best mods wit the biggest bang for the buck.

never heard a pace setter exhaust on a 3.8L before.

exhaust and intake is always a good idea. i basically have full exhaust, cai, and a descent sct xcal II tune and according to my 1/4 times, trap speed, and curb weight, i should be making about 210-212 rwhp or so. a good cam and a dyno tune will get you about 15-20+ more hp.

the best mods for the money would be:

getting rid of catalytic converters if you do not have emissions
getting better flowing exhaust
getting a better flowing air filter
underdrive pulleys cant hurt unless you will supercharge down the road
getting the rear end locked so both wheels spin
getting a smaller rear end gear (i.e. 3.73s or 4.10s)
getting a small shot of nitrous (75 shot)

i have never seen that exhaust setup in person or heard it but i know it is rather costly for the pace setter stuff, for the price your gonna pay i would check out maybe getting a custom setup with the mufflers and piping of your choice. here is a reference guide for the proper pipe sizing.

for the bang for the buck i recommend gears and a custom tune or SCT chip.

wether this is any help or not I don't know, but I'm using a MAC direct fit cat back on my 2002 3.8L. I have received several compliments on the sound though I don't have a video cam to put it up for all to hear.
