....actually i did not beat a corvette.... i was just trying to draw attention to this post. no one seemed to look at the other one. anyway,

how do I change that rear brake pads on a 97 mustang. Its like the piston screws in, but I dont know how to screw it in, or get it back in. How is this done?

thats what i always use. i also have a trick so when i take the calipers off it depresses the piston so i usually don't have to put it in at all by the time its off.... but i don't think i understand what he means by the piston screws in although i vaguely remember something like that from my co op period.

last three posts are wrong. You are absolutely right. It screws in. they make a special tool that fits on a socket, they have a few others, or you can do it with a pair of vice grips just turned the piston in with those. Ive done every way and never noticed any damage even though the vice grips are not the proper way.

Yes you can use a c-clamp on the front. I use that or my brake piston depresser or a set of big channel locks. I use the old pad and not a block of wood or anything as a pressure plate.

yess dude i remember the caliper piston is notched and each side and the socket fit into these grooves and allows the piston to be put to its relaxed position i knew there was a special too cuz i never remembered using clamps or channel locks on the rear mustang breaks

Umm since there seems to be a number of people on both sides of the fence on this one I will clear the air for you. The piston on the rear disc assy. can be rotated in by using a two pronged spanner wrench BUT can also be pushed in using a c-clamp. Either way works fine but you will have to make sure to bleed the brakes if you use the c-clamp method. Just for your info it is always reccomended to bleed the brakes after a brake job anyways and to replace all the fluid in the lines at 15,000 miles anyways. I hope this helps you out!!!

Thanks Screemin3o2, I thought the other were wrong.

Ok Turp, are you 100% sure that it CAN also be pushed in with a c-clamp. I knew thats how the front one were done, but i've never seen a set-up like the rear ones. It is made to SCREW in, by force pushing it back to it's relaxed position, will anything get screwed up at all? I don't want to offend you, but it doesnt seem like a good idea to push it in. It's like trying to screw a nail into a fence and hammer a screw into drywall, ya know?
