Bad MPG?
K guys so my car is a 99 v6 and its getting shitty gas mileage like i barley get 200 miles to the tank This is city driving slow take offs shift at 2000rpms Manuel trans. I think thats like 17mpgs?? I dont even drive the thing any more i drive my bike alot more so i can save on gas. But sometimes it rains in FL (like everyday) and i want to start driving my car more.
Just had the spark plug wires and plugs changed. i think it might be my 02 sensors possibly my fuel filter or injectors? how hard is it to change these things im an idiot when it comes to cars thanks guys!

stop and go driving is about the worst thing for your gas milage. i deal with this on my wifes car. if i drive it it gets about 19 mpg since i drive about 20 miles one way on the freeway to work. and she drives a short disctance to work everyday and gets about 14-15 mpg.
though a fuel filter swap could not be a bad idea if its been awhile.

IF the MAF sensor is bad or dirty, could that also be a problem?

its just a ford fuel line disconnect tool. You can't rent it from advance, but you can buy it, use it, wipe it off, and return it. Its an out of tank inline filter, so i can't imagine it would be that hard to change. I plan on doing mine here very shortly.

Its not that expensive part its just 3 or 4 different size plastic pieces and of course you only need one but have to purchase all. Once you find the size that fits around the fuel line you insert the smallest end in the end of the fuel filter. Push the plastic piece toward fuel filter while pulling the fuel line in the opposite direction and once it releases do the same to the other side. All it releases is a spring to remove the line.

The fuel filter its prettys straight forward I'm also in the boat as you currently getting like 12~13 miles per gallon, so I just bought the fuel filter today and i'm gonna put it later, and I'm thinking about a cold air intake.. Heres a vid its easy... You can get the oeam for 16 bucks at american muscle or other for 10 bucks on any part store make sure it has the clips included _you will need them.

damn, thats worse than me and I have more problems
I run with no oxygen sensors, 16 check engine lights, 120 thousand miles and I've owned it since 40 thousand miles, havent changed a damn thing in my car except for the belt. And I still get 300 to a tank. your car must be smoken to much weed or as he said your in stop and go traffic all the time. Last edited by Stang187; July 16th, 2009 at 12:02 AM. |

Some people push 26mpg out of sixxers (supposedly). I'm sure that's highway and the grandma-est of driving, but 200 to a tank is terrible. Def. Replace the fuel filter, run some injector cleaner, replace o2 sensors. Positive no exhaust leaks? These models are infamous for that, and even a small one can have negative effects on gas mileage.
