well lets start from the top!

when you get in your car and start it does your OD light automatically come on?? if yes then just leave it as it is wether you race or not turning it off just means you will be running with no overdrive you dont lose and hp or anything like that just wont pick up as quickly.

it shouldnt act differently. it just keeps you out of your overdrive (4th) gear

no. it will "pick up" the exact same unless tuned otherwise.

When I start my car the "O/D OFF" light is not light up, so it must be on and you guys said that when it's on it only uses 4th gear which doesn't make sense since I know it flips gears.

no. it uses 1-2-3-and 4 when od is on.
you must turn od off because it is on as default.
when off, it uses 1-2- and 3.

+1 100% correct!

Bottom line guys and read carefully here when overdrive is deactivated the only thing this does is stop the transmission from switching into your 4th gear (OD gear) bottom line it don't affect acceleration or any of that so stop saying it stop thinking it and stop telling the poor guy it your confusing the shit out of him god damn do people not read my posts or AtlanticBlue99's posts. the only advantage of switching the overdrive off is allowing your car to stay in the 3rd gear in its power band at the high rpm. INSTEAD of switching into the 4th gear (again OD gear) which is meant for economy and is a more relaxed gear ratio. Bottom line

Oh ok well now it makes sense all that talk about my trans being bad had me worried. So what's the point to turn OD off, how fast do you have to be going to flip into 4th gear I never payed attention to that.

your car will hit OD whenever your accelerator is in a cruzing (non accelerating ) position it helps save fuel thats all.

Ok I think I finialy under stand! What my understanding is that with OD on you use all gears 1-4 and if you are just crusing then it will flip into 4th gear. Now with OD off it will go through only the first 3 gears and if you are crusing it will not flip you into 4 gear. So with racing it doesn't matter if OD is on or off because your rpm will be high. Is that all right?

Also what would happen if you are driving with OD off and you are near the top speed for your 3rd gear? would the rpms just get higher and higher and bounce off the limiter ?

ya man, its all in your head. hit up wikapedia and find out how an auto works. and it does sound like you have a trans problem. take samples from your trans and look for shavings. or if its dark. just change it. i have a 2k1 5-speed. and if my car gets a slight tint in the trans fluid i change it. thats just cause i race a lot. and as for the stiffer pedle/ when you hit the od button does your floor mat move a little? lol just kidding, its all in your heads man.
