Help! Differential

Ok guys I fixed the differential face plate cover. It was still making that funny noise though . I was talking to a mechanic and he said that it was probably a broken tooth. I didn't get a chance to ask him if I should buy a whole differential or just a rebuild kit? do you guys know?

well if its just a broken Tooth or something small i would say just get a rebuild kit, no sense in replacing the entire differenetial for a broken tooth but dig more into the noise and find out what it really is dont just take a mechanic's word for it find the problem then go from there dont just throw money out because you want to just get it done and over, but if that were the case ditch the car and buy a new one (Example) i would suggest find the problem and fix it, its really not that hard.

a broken tooth wouldn't cause that much noise im leaning more towards bearings.

well Im gonna have my bearings check but Im also gonna replace the whole differential because I can get it for $40 and the rebuild kit cost like a $120.
