the gas mileage difference between (im assuming) 3.73 and 4.10 gears is so minute that it shouldnt matter. especially if you dont do highway alot. if you want to get the most out of it but stay streetable definetly go 4.10's. if your like me, i drive 300+ highway miles a week, im getting 3.73s.

b/w 3.73:1 and 4.10:1, the mpg is not noticeable for varied conditions. from stock to 4.10s, my highway rpms changed as so:

70mph stock = 60mph 4.10s
or 2400 rpms was 70 stock, now 2400 rpms is 60, and 75mph is at 3k rpms on the nose.

i have some questions about gears too so hey why not post here. im putting an 8.8 inch gt rear end into my 96 sixer because a guy at custom performance told me that if im going to be putting gears and a lot of other mods on it and im gonna be using it at the strip or road racing it a lot, then i need a stronger rear end, or the harsh driving will tear it out. the rear end he's gonna put in it for me comes with 3.73's and a posi-trak. should i stick with the 3.73's or put 4.10's in? and how big is the difference in exceleration from 3.73 to 4.10's?

the math to the applied torque can be found in this article.

my 7.5 rear holds up fine with an auto tranny and drag radials. if you launched from 5k rpms with slicks, you will more than likely break it, but the 28 splines in the 8.8 are not going to be good race axles either. look into 31 spline mosers if you are planning on serious power.

an 8.8 with 31 spline axles and 4.10s would be ideal for v6 power on the strip. what axles and differential unit are in the rear he wants to install?

really when it comes down to gear choice this is wat makes or brakes your choice down

future mods,
type of driving its used for MOST

if you plan on modding the hell out of your car depending on what mad you get, turbo, nitrous, s/c, everything but FI..all will vary

if you can open up the rpm range more and you race alot 4.10s i would say isnt even the choice, 4.30 or 4.56 if your conna be racing on a n/a car with or with out nitrous.
if your just gonna eventually through on a s/c or turbo on there, and not upgrading the internals, heads or cam. i wouldnt get 4.10 or high
3.90 or 3.73s
