Motor Squeak

My pony has a problem. I have a squeak. Not a squeal. I have been checking things out and I've come to a few conclusions.

Things it could be:
1. I suspect that it is the water pump pulley / bearing thing. How hard is it to replace a water pump on a 2000 v6 mustang?

Things its not:
1. I've checked my belt. Its good.
2. I've checked the pulley on the alternator and its not the one making the noise/

Finally a tech question, this site have been death for like a week please post threads.....

Ok do you also have bad idle? I don't know if you have done this but with the car off, turn the crankshaft (with a tool) backwards so you can get a better idea from where the sounds is coming cuz it could be your crankshaft and a lot of more things..

A stethoscope can be very useful, Is the squeak permanent or temporary? What things you do when it starts doing it like a/c on for example?

Its not his crankshaft. I have no idea where you are getting that from.

Its most likely the motor mounts like safi said. Either that or it could be your front LCA bushing. I know I used to have a random squeak until I replaced mine.

Okay, here is an update on the problem.

Background:
The noise is not dependent upon the A/C. It is there regardless of the A/C being on or off. I realize it could still make the noise with it on or off, but the difference in load on the a/c would probably effect the pitch, consistency, or something related to the noise, but it doesn't.
It is not a squeal that is constant like a bad belt. This is a very consistent chirp. At first I thought it was the belt slipping and then catching. But, after replacing the belt the noise is still there.
My next step was to grease the backside of the pulley to the left of the alternator (2000 v6 if that makes a difference). This pulley has no real purpose except to apply more tension to the belt. It is not connected to any components on the car. This didn't make a change in the noise. My next step was to route the belt around that pulley to see if it was still making the noise. The car ran and the noise stayed. So, its not that pulley.

Guesses:
Motor mounts??? How do I check this? I never even thought about that possibility.

Water pump??? The noise sounds like it is dead center in the front of the engine compartment. So, I figured it was the bearing on the pump. I looked in my Haynes manual and it says that a squeak coming from the engine bay (near water pump) that is not drivebelt noise could be the shaft bearing.

So, what do you guys think?

Okay, so its the weekend again and that means that Operation My little Pony is back on.

I've been thinking about my motor noise and I've got some ideas.
1. Put a friend in the car and have them rev the motor. If the sound changes then we know that it is a rotating mass (pulley). When I say changes I mean speeds up, louder, etc.
2. My next idea would be to take the belt off and see if the noise is still present without it. This ought to confirm if the noise is part of the belt system.
3. My 3rd idea is to burn the car......I dunno. I'll update as I find out learn more.

On a side note we went and looked at cars this week. Has anyone seen the engine bay of a newer civic? I swear the techs that work on those cars either have jelly hands or are gnomes. There is no room under the hood of that thing.

Anyway, if anyone can think of anything else let me know. I don't have a scope, but metal will transfer noise and vibration. So, I'm going to use a metal rod to transfer the sound/feel from component to component. We'll find this thing this weekend for sure.

Place the car on 4 jack stands, turn the car on, press the gas and have someone to check on the back for the sound, then on the front....

Check your cam syncro.

Thats what it was on mine. They commonly go up in 3.8 and 4.2 engines.

I just had this issue also, and the culprit was the water pump, was just about to completely fail and overheat my engine.

Myopia, was it just a bad water pump pulley? Like a simple take old one off put new one on? Or was it a little more than that? I got the same noise on my GT and its coming right from the water pump pulley.
