Transmission Swap

I have a 97 mustang 5 speed. Is there any difference between the base model and the v8 5-speed? I need to new transmission (my syncro mash is gone). I can get a 98 gt 5-speed faster than I can get a v6 tranny. What transmission is on the v6? what transmission is on the gt's? also, Im wondering if it is my transmission. This is what happen--- When I take off hard in 1st gear and try to shift it fast to second, it grinds like a mother f-----. It never used to do it, but over the past 2-3 months it started doing it. I thought it was the clutch, its not. I just put a new one it. Is it the transmission? Thank you.

could be a problem in the clutch system or sloppy shift linkage or shifter linkage i thought i heard about the stock shifter causing problems from 2-3 or 3-4 cuz they get worn and sloppy

only differences that I know of between the two are the clutches, and the bell housing.

so it wont bolt directly up to my bell housing? I know I need a new clutch for it. Would it make a difference on power or anything like that? or is it the same transmission?

It should bolt up to your bellhousing, but if you got the tranny with the bellhousing you would have to switch in the 3.8 one. It won't make a difference on power or anything, they are the same tranny from what I know.
