Differential girdle

In looking at Super Six Motorsports' 4.0 catalog, I noticed that they recommend replacing the girdle when putting in new gears and a t-lock.

This is the first time that I have heard of doing that. Does anyone know why replacing the girdle would be recommended?

Yeah, I sent them an email and will post the response when (if) I receive one.

In the meantime perhaps someone here already knows.

A rear girdle will significantly stregthen the rear. The load bolts provide support for the bearing caps. You can find them for around $150 and are a good mod in my book if you are going to be doing high rpm launches on slicks.

The product description does state they hold more fluid and reduce operating temps by an average of 15 degrees.

I just didn't see a lowering of temps to be worth an additional $150. Not to mention who cares about an engraved logo on something that sits under the car in the rear?

If it does strengthen the whole assembly then it would be worth the extra cash.

I didn't install one for looks. I have lowered my car like most people have. You can't see it unless you look up under the car.

My reasoning was to stregthen the rear. There are several out there made by different manufacturers but look almost identical. I saw a Ford Racing one for $199.99 but the only difference I noted was the name. If you are running a bolt-on car you would probably be fine without it. However, if have built up the rear like I have with aftermarket axles and differential it just makes sense to go ahead and do this as well.
