the rear wheels are connect by an axle which is known as the rear axle. in it are axles, gears, and a differential. the middle houseing holds the gears and differential to which the axle connect to and go out to the wheels which makes them spin. there is no such thing as a dumb question

see the thing in the middle that the 2 stick/pole looking objects connect to... that is the axle housing which is where the gears go
