New shocks needed?
120,000 miles and just installed H&R lowering springs. I think my rear shocks are bottoming out (if that makes since). Sounds like two hammers are hitting something in my trunk when i go over big humps in the road. So... new shocks sound about right????

yeah shocks normally wear out around 75k miles, and putting the extra stress of lowering springs will kill a weak strut fast, if you can get some upgraded ones, not sure how low you are but you can kill a brand new OEM strut with springs pretty quickly

Replacing the shocks should help reduce suspension travel, but it would seem that you may need a different shock to compensate for the car being lowered.

I put H&R sport springs on which is about 1.75'' lowered. Would a pair of tokico HP series shocks do the trick for my lowered suspension? Also, would it lower it anymore or is the ride height only based on the springs??? I really don't want it to go down anymore bc then the rear would sit lower than the front. Thanks for the help.

If the new shocks are gas charged they could raise the car a little bit, but yes the springs mostly determine the ride height.
I don't know what type would be suitable for a lowered car. |

I have the HP's and they work great, they have taken nicely to my car, which is 1.75" lower than stock (measured at the side skirt). Shocks won't change the ride height much if at all. I would also get caster/camber plates if you haven't already.

Thanks. I already got the CC plates. I know I will have to replace the struts as well but just taking it one step at a time. I just wanted to make sure the rear would not drop anymore and look like its sagging compared to the front since i'm not doing struts at the same time.

Thanks man but I'll be taking it to the shop I always go to. I'm currently moving out of my house and about to leave for the Army so I don't have a lot of spare time to be working on the car. It will take those guys no time to throw in the shocks and their labor prices are fair.

New shocks installed. They feel great. Gives the car a comfortable ride and no more loud hammer noise coming from the trunk when hitting bumps in the road.
