ur thinking blow off valve:
and the reason it does that is because it is relieving the pressure that the turbo has built up when you left off the gas |

doesnt make the sound
real boosted cars will have this part--its a blow off valve. basically allows excess pressure(boost) to exit the intercooler or blower/turbo to throttle body pluming. its used to protect turbo fins, s/c fins, in some cases more then that. high boost s/c applications with a small blow off valve will and can snap a crank, destroy the blower. it can destroy you turbo as well |

I've had a boosted car and a CAI sounds NOTHING like a BOV man.
To the op: If that's the sound you want, turbo is the only way to go man lol. SOOOOOO worth the money also. |

ya nobody is saying they think it does...all we have said is it makes a noise that can sound like a BOV to an untrained ear.

I know its not close...ive heard a BOV and ive obviously heard the noise my CAI makes.
But Goren has his story and i was giving a friend a ride and i shifted and he asked "was that a BOV?" I thought he was joking and i laughed, but unfortunately he was serious...i know its hard for you (and many others) to imagine, but there are people that do/will mistake the noise the CAI makes in between shifts for a BOV. And this same friend also couldnt tell if my car was a V8 or a V6...

I'm with chris on this one...the sucking sound sounds nothing like a bov. Not even a weak blow off. Maybe a little bit like a weak spool but I've never heard a turbo car that sounded like a stock car with a cai...even when I didn't know much about cars.

^ It's hard to imagine, but there are people who are clueless. It's pointless for us to continue on without the OP. There's no need for us to argue what it could sound like to someone who has no clue what they're talking about. The OP thought it was HEADERS guys come on now.

sorry sorry guys my bad for not replying but yea i had no clue what it was.... and no im not a guy that knows everything about cars... I really don't know anything that deals with mods. I can fix whatever it might be but I don't know all the fancy stuff, but im reading and learning off this website its been very helpful
The sound i was looking for was the blow off valve. I didn't know if it had something to do with exhaust hint my other thread is about exhaust so I randomly thought of the headers and just asked. Sorry again for not replying... Thanks though. |

Its all good man. Something you can buy that is worth its weight in gold is the Haynes repair manual. That book has gotten me out of so many jams.

^ Agreed, having a nice manual around is definitely helpful.
And this is why this forum exists, to assist people in learning how to, and then actually modding their Mustangs, so feel free to ask, it's just hard to diagnose somethings without the OP involved, hence why the debate began.
