AB, GreenFaleen, and others with 4.10 and dual exhaust

I know that we have pretty much beat this topic to death lately. Due to the cost involved, I would like to be sure that I have asked every question I can to ensure I get what is appropriate for me. I apologize if I am bugging the crap out of you guys and I hope that you can understand my intentions and reasoning.

My big question is concerning hwy driving and exhaust resonance / interior noise.

I am planning to have my local muffler shop install a true dual exhaust with custom h-pipe and Flowmaster 40s. I am told that this setup will be slightly loud. I believe that your exhaust setups are similar in loudness to what I will have.

I think it was AB (forgive me if I am wrong) that stated running at 85mph with 4.10 gears will be around 3400rpms. Is the resonance from the exhaust at this speed / RPM very loud?

Another way that I can ask this, which may give you a better idea of why I'm asking the question - after driving for 8 hours at this speed / RPM would you be deaf / brain dead from listening to the drone of the exhaust for that long (or longer) of a trip?

Are you able to talk normally or do you have to elevate your voice to be heard?

Thanks a *lot* for any help and information that you can throw my way.

i have side pipes so its a bit loud you do have ot raise your voice if you have the windows open the whole rpm and speed bit is from here http://www.tchracing.com/tech/gearca...selectedgear=5

also the resonance i believe gets to be the loudest at 2000-2100 rpm for my car

I have that exhaust setup and you can barely hear it. It is there but is like background noise easily blocked out by a low volume song over the radio. If you get on the gas hard you hear it but it isn't an annoying sound at cruise.

Thank you for that as I do try to be correct. BTW, the correct spelling is grammar. LOL

Thanks for the info GreenFaleen.

Hopefully AB isn't pissed at me for another question and will also throw in an opinion.

I just had an exaust shop make an H-pipe and a true dual exaust with flowmaster 40's. It sounds really nice at idle and has a great sound when accelerating. The noice while highway driving is not bad at all its actually rather quiet.

Are you running 3.73 or 4.10 gears or are you stock?

I ask because the 3.73 or 4.10 gears raise the RPMs up and therefore cause the exhaust to be louder.

For example, at 80mph my stock gears put me at 2K RPMs while with 4.10 gears doing 80mph would put me at ~3200 RPMs. My car at 2K RPMs is very quiet but at 3K RPMs gets a bit loud and that is still with my stock exhaust and stock gears. See what I mean and why I am asking?

I don't have flow 40's

Mine is kinda loud at those rpms. But If I turn on a song its not so bad, you still hear and feel and hum though. But I don't have catalytic converters either though. You will be happy with the 4.10's though. I guarantee it. I love mine! When I rebuild the engine hopefully it will have more ass in 3rd and 4th gear.

off the line the 4.10's are great but when you get to top end it sucks.

That is the rub that I am trying to resolve at the moment.

I do more hwy driving than local driving. Therefore, off the line doesn't do a whole lot for me. That is why I am thinking the 3.73s will be better for me. I still get better off the line than stock but don't kill myself while on the hwy.

Then they are for you. I'm happy with mine but on the interstate my gas mileage sucks. I don't think its good for my engine to rev 3k for long periods, so I've been taking my 5.0 for long trips. In my 5.0 I'm probaly going to go with 3.55 gears. (maybe 3.73) Because of the power I plan to build with it. I know people say its only 200 rpms more. But if I could turn 200 less on the interstate I'd be happy.

at 5.5 rpm my exhaust isn't that loud in the cabin cruising at 3500 wouldn't be bad.

Flowmasters resonate like a bitch on the highway, my magnapacks are quiet like a stock gt until 3k rpms, then it is louder than most modded gt's. interior noise from exhaust is prevelent only in the rear seat area, but you do hear the exhaust a good bit. look at my youtube videos under my same username as here to see some interior videos shots and exhaust clips.

at 85mph = about 3400 and yes, anything over 3k will scare small children. it is the same volume appx. from 3k rpms to 6k rpms (and it kills the ears!)

i drove the 3 hour drive to atlanta and back and did not get a headache. i turn the music up a lot so i dont get droned to sleep from the exhaust.

you have to speak up at high rpms, but cruising, you can whisper and hear.

remember though- i have magnapacks which are louder at higher rpms than flowmasters, but the flowmasters are louder at cruise speeds.

Considering that I will usually have my kids (daughter 5 and son 3) in the back seat traveling with me, I am starting to believe that I need to rethink having the Flowmasters.

Unfortunately I am not familiar any mufflers so I will have to ask you guys (again) for suggestions.

What type of muffler will be good with a true dual exhaust (stock headers) and 3.73s for hwy traveling at 3K RPMs that won't make my kids and I deaf and allow us to have a conversation (i.e. little or no radio)?

Is the above even realistically possible?

they won't be that bad they do resonate if they are separate it was pretty bad but when I got my crossover pipe it was fine you can have a convo with no radio easily. I know this since insurance still hasn't fixed my dash

I can't afford a twin turbo. LOL

It would be nice if I could afford a single turbo or a s/c.

magaflows and borlas are very quiet mufflers in comparison to mac, flowmaster, and other chambered designs.
