I can't decide...

ok so i have my 2000 V6 Mustang
its in decent condition..few scratches a couple dents and dings on the body like you'd expect on a car that wasn't taken car of before
has about 116,000 miles on it
my plan was when something went bad, replace it with better aftermarket parts, in about 5 years or so when i have the money and im old enough buy a 04 gt and dump my money into it

but im having second thoughts...
would it be smarter to keep my v6 (my first car) and through my money into it
new paintjob, minor body work, get all new dual exhaust headers and all new upper intake tuner new rear end with new gears..blah blah so on and so forth
or stick to my original plan?

i love having good gas mileage and having low insurance, cant really get that with a GT...

opinions?

I'd stick to your original plan. 6er is also right about the mileage, there are quite a few GT guys who get the same or better mileage than we do.

edit: Also, get an insurance quote on a GT. There are many cases where they aren't that much more to insure than our sixers...

I would sell it, unless you plan to keep it for a long, long time, the bad things is that its gonna loose a lot of money, you wont be able to get as much as you want, mine has 109k miles, you can get a nice Gt on craiglist for cheap you just have to keep looking, I also wanted a 04GT but 01-04 are the same so I suggest to get an 01 like me, also don't go for 04Gt instead of that get a Mach1 they're very responsive 4v Dohc etc and the price is very similar if you're looking for a GT with low miles.....

Do what I did save a couple of thousands then when you have what you wanted sell the sixxer and get a GT....

just gonna throw it out there....

if you want a really nice performance car and plan on keeping the 6 for a long time you could save up money and drop a v8 in it. something from frpp, roush, or edelbrock. of course you would have to rework the suspension, tranny, guages, and im sure other things but if you have the time it may be worth it. plus it would be fun to build your car with exactly what you want on and in it.

anyway back to the original question it all depends on your power goals, how much you are willing to spend, and what you want out of the car in the end. if you want a decent sounding car with good milage just get dual exhuast and a cai and put it on the 6. if you want a great sounding car with ok milage get the gt/mach 1. v8s are easier to get power out of but its all just whatever you want to do with the car...

o yea machs usually run around 15-18k around here with low mileage but everything is expensive around here

The cheapest one I had found cost 11,900 with 54k miles, you can get one around that price with 50-60k miles, if you want less miles it will cost 12-14K, with 30-50kmiles even low miles 15-18k but sometimes people sell them cheap with low miles. (that's how I had found them)

The one I'm talking about its on autotrader actually theres like 5 around the same price...

Unless you're looking for a cheap mustang then get the Gt but the mach1 is way more responsive to mods, I saw 3 dynos, one of them was a mustang dyno sae corrected with just Cai, and a catback and they made like 32rwhp with just that! so now they have 300rwhp......

I'm gonna get the Gt and drive it for 6months or a year till I save for the mach 1...

dropping a v8 in my 6 would probably be more trouble than its worth
if i find a nice mach1 i'll get it, but if i find the gt first then i'll get it
i've got about 5 years until im ready to buy another stang so by then prices should be lower and then i can decide
as long as whatever i get looks and sounds like a beast and has a good amount of "get up and go" i'll be happy =)
thanks for the input guys

Sell it and get a Prius....

I'd think it will be more wise to save up a little bit, sell the sixxer and then go for the GT.

I was in a similar predicament. I'm prolly going to keep my six though. I bought it out right so I don't have any payments, and I kind of like it like that. We are probably in two different situations though.

I myself am thinking about this. I'm going to Korea for a year and when i come back i'm gonna have ALOT of spending money. Trying to decide if i should S/C the 6 and have alot of residual money, or get a mach 1 or termi but have payments.

I too have a 6er. Paid 4000 in cash for it. Ive fixed mine up to the point where if i sold it, I could get about 5500 for it pretty easy.

If I were to sell my 6er this is what I would look at.

If i needed a long term car that would last me/ a future family car, I would look at getting at 05-09 6er. Theres plenty of room on these things for some visual and mild engine upgrades ot make you stand out from all the other soccer moms. Plus it is dependable car.

If you want a nice power car to use as a daily driver, then I suggest a GT that you can upgrade.

If you want a really good car where you wouldnt have to upgrade too much, then save up for a mach 1, or even a cobra terminator.

well by the time i seriously start looking i will be around 21 im hoping i don't have to worry about the family part haha

i'd like a car that has decent stock power and looks
throw on a nice full exhaust and some lil performance mods that add up to make it pretty wicked and fun to drive
put i want to stay N/A no matter what i do

Well Mach 1s or 99 Cobras run about 11-15k where Im at. They come pretty nice, so you wont have to do much work. Considering that you will probably drop a couple thousand by the time youve finished a GT, Mach 1s could be the normal route.
