Get a new mechanic , light is on for a reason , post up the code its throwing the light for and I am sure you can be guided in the right direction and fix it yourself if you give us more info

So the check engine light code WAS P0411; secondary air induction -- upstream flow. I unplugged the battery for 30 mins, then plugged it back in and started up my car. The light came back on. A little over a week ago, I installed a new starter on my car (which fixed my clicking problem in my other thread, by the way), and had my battery unplugged for a couple of hours this time. Over a week later, no check engine light so far.
