They hold the rack in place and over time deteriourate.

When this happens and you turn your wheels the rack will shift and cause a pop or clunk noise.

You need to remove the nut and the through bolt to get the bushings out. The two bolts that I pointed out before are the correct ones.

If the bushings look large it's probably because they are uncompressed.

I've been adding confusion to all of this, since I was confused myself. I was taking the bushings y'all are talking about as something else, like when you're leaking power steering fluid out of the thing, that's why i suggested just replacing the whole thing. In this instance replacing only the bushings is the way to go.

It's all good.

What you were referring to would be considered seals as far as I know. Unless you meant the bellows boots.

I hope you're not serious.

There is no need to use a torch. Its just 2 nuts, 2 through bolts and 4 pieces of rubber.

I have this same popping sound when I steer. I was told by a few people that it was probably the steering rack bushings.

Let us know if this fixes the problem. I'm looking at doing this fix myself if it will fix that popping sound.

They just came in today. Gonna try and install tomorrow. I got the Offset ones since my car is lowered, and the hole in the bushing is not center, but off center. I suppose this is the "offset".

Yep. That will raise or lower the rack depending on how you put the offset.

The offset is to help re-align some of the steering geometry that was changed when you lowered your car. It won't be perfect but it should help a little.

Should the holes in the brushings be near the bottom or top of the rack? It depends on which way I turn them when I install them... im guessing the holes need to be near the bottom so the bolt, and thus the rack, are forced upward?

I can take some pics of the brushing if needed. Gonna try to get this done this weekend.

That would be my best guess. It should move it up about an inch.

well... wouldnt you want it to move down acually since the suspension has gone down and you are trying to align it again?

The rack is still straight in the right spot... but the ends (where the tires/springs/shocks are) have gone down... so the rack needs to come down... right?

No you want to move the rack up because the body of the car has gone down and the control arms, knuckles and all the other stuff has gone up.

If you move it down you're going farther away from where you need to be.
