Cat Back exhaust for V6 that doesnt sound like a tuner car

I've got a 99 v6 and I believe that one of the lifters collapsed. Long story short...my V6 needs work.

I'm going to replace the lifters, cam and exhaust.

I want to put a "dual tip" exhaust on it, but I don't want the car to sound like a little import. I've heard that the sound is all in the muffler being used.

Oh yeah....I'm on a tight budget...hoping to around $400 on the exhaust.

Any suggestions? I've heard some of the online exhaust sounds but more links would help. Thanks.

have a local shop make it for you, two flowmaster 40's, and have them run a custom pipe for you, with two chrome exhaust tips.cost me about 340 for all of it. mine sounds awesome and runs great. my pipes are straight out the back... but soon to get X pipes, so i'd go ahead and get X's while ur doing it.

both. It evens out the exhaust flow for a more even deeper sound and it acts as an H-pipe

It is not all in the muffler you use. You will never sound like a GT. It has to do with the everything involved with air being moved from your engine to your exhaust tips. Now since our engines are even fire engines it will sound ricey up top. Just noise no exhaust note. With a cam, a h-pipe, and a catback of your choosing, your v6 will sound better than a ton of cars.

Thanks all

So true duals with a crossover and Flowmaster 40s sounds like the way to go. A little ricey but deep sounding enough for most, right?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good Cam and Lifter Kit or just a nice hitting Cam?
