automatic shifting and reving ?

I have a all stock automatic v6 and on the shifter it has r d n 1 2 I was woundering if I can manually shift through 1 and 2 gear when I'm driving on the road? If so how do I do it because I don't want to break any thing. Also is it possible to rev my engine when coasting ,if so how ?

uhm let me think put it in first and then put it into 2'nd and then uhm put it in 3'rd /drive geeeseee it could hurt it if you don't shift right time and don't do this often and also don't be shifting down while coatsing to make it sound loud that ruin it

and there is no point in manually shifting first and second with the automatic. You will just end up hurting something in the long run. Some people do it when they are on the track and its called quick shift or slap shifting but for a stock v6 mustang doing this will not help you out at all. Just put it in drive and go lol ya.. boring i know i wish i had a stick 2 . i chose the convertible over the stick and i figured since my mom had an 05 gt stick then i could just drive that whenever i got bored lol.

it will hurt nothing as long as you do it before 4800 rpm. Stock your going to lag about 500 rpm so shift about 4.5k for best results.

If you wanna do that kind of stuff get a shift kit it will help a lot you will get faster shifts no lag. You will also gain control over all the gears if you get a shifter not just 1 and 2. For a shift kit you will need a B&M shift improvement kit, 2100-2400 stall torque converter, and a shifter. I am in the process of writing up stuff on it just normal info I'll send it to you in a pm before I post it if your interested.

Ok I am interested in the shift kit but if it cost more then 300 I can't get it right now so if it doesent hurt my car using 1 and 2 to shift how do I shift? do I have to let off the gas and hit brake then hit the shifter button and put it in 2nd ? sorry if it sounds stupid but I never actually drove manual or shifted gears by my self.

shift kits are dirt cheep and if you have a friend that does transmissions install will cost beans too.

uhhh do not hit the break when you shift since its an auto you dont do anything cept shift... if it was a manual obviously you would depress the clutch shift rev match and release the clutch

ok so I won't ruin my engine doing this right? and just to make sure I do not let off the gas all i do is when my car gets to 4500rpm is to press in the button and shift it into second? what speed does second gear get up to ? and when I come to a stop or slow down do I press in that button and flip back to first gear or would that break it ?

you don't need to press the button just push forward.
ummm second goes to like 65 70 shift it at 4500 again but don't down shift with out a shift kit that will hurt your tranny if you want to slow down slide it into D and you still don't have to press the button just always shift before 4500 rpm there is no minimum.

don't get the torque converter you don't need it it just helps. you can get the improvement kit and the shifter for 265 installed for about 50

and your rev limiter should be 6 unless you had it changed 4 is the neutral rev limiter.

figured, u know ive been thinking about stiffer motor mounts help get that power to the tranny a bit better then losing some of it in engine torque in the mounts. figure its a good idea?

Oh ok I reved it in neutral and it limited it to 4k and it did shake lol, I didn't know it was different in drive. and this is all i need "shift kit will be
65 for improvement kit 200 for shifter " Because if that's the case I might be able to get it soon.

yeah thats it you will just only be able to rev (with break in) to about 1200 before you break lose on your launches.Oh after you get the shift kit you can shift at 5.2 rpm and up and down shift
