99 v6 mustang 351w and 8.8 rear end swap
i have a 99 v6 mustang and i plan on putting a carbed 351 windsor in it next spring i know i need new k-member suspension ,trans ,rear end so on.im hoping to have about 400-450 hp when im done with the motor i was wondering what trans would b best i also plan on putting a 125-150 shot of nitrous on eventually.im going with a manual trans. i was also wondering with a 8.8 rear end swap if it needs to b from a 99-04 gt or if i can put one from a different vehicle in it?

your best bet for the rear end is to find one from a 99-04 for best fitment. It will be a direct swap with an auto. with a manual I dont know. I would imagine if it was from a GT that had a manual it will still be direct fit.

I think an expedition from your same year will have an 8.8 that fits pretty easily as well. Good luck on the swap thats what I always wanted to do

im doing the same swap with my 02. i got a used rear end out of an 03/04 mach1. its the same 8.8 but with better gears and the 31 spline axels. as for the k memeber, you need one out of a 94 mustang. i went with one from upr. from there you need a bellhousing for a 5.0. as for the tran, im working on the money for a tko600r. you will need to get a drive shaft made, but thats really not that bad. most shops with order one for your application, you just need the specs. im ripped all the wires from mine, and rewired the whold car. really not that hard to do if you try. got a universal fuse holder from autozone and butt loads of colored wires to make it more easy to find bad leads in the years to come. most people say to fun a 4 inch cowl hood to fit, i just built my stock one. fiber glassed the scoop, raised it about an inch, and cut out the bottom so the air filter sits right inside.. ya, went to uti before joining the army. so, i have a good back round. if you need any help, hit me up. thanks, jim

Even simple things like cleaned up heads, headers back exhaust, and an intake manifold and/or carb if you go that route youll start finding the shortcomings of the V6 platform. I wouldn't do it the 8.8 is weaker then a 8 inch most say im crazy when i say but its true.Do you have a 8 inch now or a 7.5 and how much power are you making.

A 7.5 with a detroit true-track will handle a good amount of hp but for $500 for it. A used 8.8 would be the cheaper way out.
