Serpentine Belt Problem

so my serpentine belt keeps sliding off the idler pulley on my 2000 v6 mustang
my grandparents went and got me a new belt so me and my uncle tried installing it...well
that tension pulley that is supposed to move up to allow the belt to slide on then tighten it back up wont go up high enough to allow the belt to go on...anyone know why it won't go up high enough?

yeah im guessing wrong sized belt. Either that or the tensioner pulley is siezed up from rust/currosion or whatever.

I'd replace the tensioner if the belt keeps slipping off.

More than likely it's worn out. Also double check and make sure that belt is the right size.

Now double check and make sure that belt doesn't slip off any more.

A worn pivot on the tensioner will cause it to angle slightly throwing off the belt.

Glad you figured it out. An expensive fix for a problem is better than not being able to find the issue. Let us know how it turns out!
