Carbon Fiber Difference

Hey I was just wanting to know... I have a 98 mustang v6 and i'm think about getting a carbon fiber hood, aiming just for the weight, how much is the difference between the carbon fiber hood than the stock.
how much does a stock hood weigh compared to the carbon fiber hood. when you look at these hondas that weigh practically nothing with the little bitty engines, it makes me wanna shave some stuff off my car to take some weight off of it.

every 100 lbs is a tenth of a second off on the 1/4 theoretically. The difference in weight of the hoods isn't enough to make a really noticble difference.

personally i would look for the power to get you off the line fast with them and then lighten it when seriously track racing all the time but i say get the power advantage cuz they will have weight advantage over you regardless so use what you have to your advantage

get a fiberglass hood, unless you like the look of carbon fiber. i have a fiberglass hood and its pretty damn light. i almost installed it myself but it pissed me off when i cracked my cowl so my friend came over to help me.

my fiberglass hood weighs 24lbs i think....I made sure i weighed it...the stock hood is about 35-40lbs....all i know is that i can hold the new one in one hand with no problem...unlike the stock hood

with the cost of a carbon fiber hood, you could get a new fiberglass hood and a lil bit or performance

That means that your engine has 3797 cubic centimeters of displacement, which is equivalent to 232 cubic inches, or (obviously), roughly 3.8 liters. If you're in a bone stock sn95 V6, you are around 3100 pounds dry weight, with a full tank of gas weighing about 140-150 pounds plus whatever you and all the extra crap in your car weigh.

yea but you dont have to paint carbon fiber, you can put it on as is, so really its cheaper than fiberglass, because you have to paint fiberglass right?

Then you dont have to paint fiberglass either...its just looks better if it is...and painting/buying a hood does come out to the price of buying a carbon hood if a shop is paintnig for you...I thought about that too debating carbon over fiberglass...but if any1 wants to be a real dick u have better chances of gettinga carbon fiber hood keyd then a after market hood esp. one not painted cuz people will not bother if someone is just jealous or doesnt like you....because then that would force u to paint over it or some decal....happend to a buddy of mine...then ended up painting over...still looks good but the whole look of the car changes...

is a carbon fiber hood like the one on the mustang next to the logo, or is that just a cool paint job?

Also, ultraviolet breaks down the epoxies used to adhere the carbon fibers, so if you don't paint it it will look crappy and become really flexible within a couple of years.
