Car fails to accelerate

I have a '02 Mustang V6 recently I've noticed whenever I try to accelerate (esp. uphill or slight slope) the car fails to accelerate and sometimes it even slows down to less than 25mph even while pressing the pedal... The only time I can really make it go is if I hold the pedal down and even then it struggles to go past 2000rpm

Today while driving it jerked a bit and then slowed down...I heard sort of a air tapping sound and pulled over there was grayish white smoke coming for the exhaust

The check engine light has now come on and it throws the code about the EGR Valve is getting too much flow..

Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

smoke makes me want to say head gasket. but that would be more blueish and all the time

code is probably bad rear o2 sensors, and the accel problem id blame of the cat so get new cats new rear o2(probably killed by the cats dumping fuel on them) and you should be ok,

sound like you have a blown head gasket.... white smoke is coolant burning. in cylinder.

blue smoke would be piston rings going bad.

Not to sound like a dick but you are all heading in the wrong direction.

Your EGR valve is stuck open or staying open.

On the front of your engine not far from the EGR is a black canister with a vacuum line going to the top of the EGR. Unhook the vacuum line from that and see if the problem goes away. If it does replace that actuator. I can't remember the exact name. If that doesn't solve your issue pull a vacuum on the EGR to make sure that it opens and closes.

If the EGR is good and the actuator is ok, replace the DPFE. 98% of the time it's the DPFE.
