Engine "stroker"

Hey someone told me a 4.2 is a "stroked" version of the 3.8... what does stroked mean.

On a different note... if I put a 4.0 or 4.2 in my car, will i have to change my computer, or is that just when you swap to more or less cylinders (e.g. 4 cyl or v8)

a stroker kit gives you some upgraded engine pieces that adds displacement to the engine making it now a 4.2. Other guy know more about it than me. The engine swap will take some new ECU mapping but if you get a stroker kit to make your 3.8 a 4.2 then they can just tune it.

I almost bought a stroker. A stroker kit just changes most of your internals - cam, intakes, pistons, rods, valves, valve covers, tb, every major mechanical part. Basically your putting all the internals from a 4.2 into a 3.8 and getting the power of the 4.2. Its very nice. only problem is a 4.2 long rob stroker is going to cost you 6700.

Actually I was talking a brand new motor. lol. a brand new 4.2 stroker is 6700 from super six. the kit is about 2grand. i guess to install your at about 6000. And for that I would just get the new motor, and drop it in yourself.

no it is a "crate" engine everything ready to drop in. If it was just the block it would be a 3.8 block not a stroker.

lol. true. do me a favor, click the link i gave and look at the forged rod/ forged piston 3.8, compare it to the one you are looking at. mine comes with this:

Heres what we're looking at. You are ordering the forged rod/forged piston 3.8 engine for your 97 3.8 Mustang with T-5 transmission. for best performance with the ProCharger, we're including Stage 3 cylinder heads, and the CompCams 218/224 billet cam. Your engine will include CompCams 1.7 stud mount rocker arms, Trickflow hardened pushrods, race-prepped 94-95 rods and Wiseco forged pistons. We'd recommend 8.8:1 compression ratio for your ProCharger application. We'll also provide a Stage 3 upper intake along with the BBK 56mm throttle body at no additional cost.

DID I GET SCREWED????

ohhhh no your getting a custom built engine for your specs and needs. Mine is just a generic drop in that you will have to adjust to fit your needs. Yours is being built around what power adders you have in mind.
