02 V6, Service Engine Light, Error Code P0445

The light has been on for a while.. it used to be accompanied by the check fuel cap light for a while but that stopped happening a while back.. i stopped by autozone a few days ago and they told me it was error code.. P0445.. i think.. well the guy told me the no problem associated with that code was the fuel cap.. so bought a new one and i can definitely tell that the vacuum seal with the new cap is much greater.. the guy told me the light should go off between 50 and 100 miles ive been nearly 200 since then and its still there.. any suggestions?

maybe a full tune would help get everything workin right, and maybe it might be that it just isn't on all the way

that is not a fuel cap issue

P0445 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted

you have a problem with the circuit going to your purge control valve or the valve solenoid its self has failed or shorted. Inspect the wires to the purge control valve solenoid and make sure the insulation is not worn the wires are not in a stressed position and no wire fraying is happening if the wire looks ok replace the purge control valve and it should solve your issue.

PS: the guys at autozone couldn't find there ass with both hands dont surprise me that they diagnosed the problem wrong even though this is a pretty standard OBD2 error code.

yes the purge canister traps and pushes any fuel vapors and such and put them into the intake manifold so they can be used a leaking or damaged evap system can have adverse effects on fuel millage

its possible you could have damaged part of your evap system it does have lines that run under the car. I believe purge valve is located under the hood on the firewall on the passenger side.... i have not had a chance to get a Haynes Manuel for my car yet...

could have been small rocks that damaged it, if you drive on dirt roads very often then i would recomend getting some of those custom molded mud flaps (they don't look like a truck mud flap, they look like the little ones right behind the wheels on subaru's, they don't look like it but they actualy will do alot)

try auto anything.com, they only cost like $20 but get the ones that are custom molded, not the ones that are like trucker flaps, they arn't really noticable when you just look at the car, but they will help protect the underbody and the paint from getting dirty fast or from rocks chiping up the rear bumper or rocker panels

it will throw no code if it is malfunctioning (opening at weird intervals) but the doors for the gas fume recycle thingy ford has that is run by the rear o2 sensor like to get stuck open a lot it is annoying.

the gas fume recycling thingy ur referring to must be the evaporative system lol i did no know that the rear o2 sensor controlled the evap canister purge control valve but it would make since if he spun out and damaged his rear o2 sensor wires that would cause a short out or a fault he is experiencing then. so bud if u come back check your rear o2 sensors and wires they may have been ripped off and causing a dead short to the exhaust system or the chassis and or may have a damaged o2 sensor.
